Penalties: 14 penalties for 120 is bad. Penalties is where you can see an immediate difference with a new coach, which preaches focus and discipline. I know he had some young guys in the first game of the season against a good team but this needs to be cleaned up immediately.

Jarren Williams: Although he was under constant pressure, he held the ball too long and caused several of the sacks. He didn’t have great feel for the game but hopefully that will come with time. He also never threw the ball downfield when he did have time. Almost half the sacks were because he held onto the ball too long.

John Campbell: Not only repeatedly beat physically and get called for numerous penalties but appeared to make mental mistakes (not blocking anyone or double teaming someone and let a guy run free) as well. He struggled just as much in the running game as he did with pass protection.

Zion Nelson: I give the guy credit for working hard to earn the starting drop and changing his body, but it is hard to imagine a worse performance. I thought he would struggle due to a lack of strength. However, his speed and athleticism were the major weaknesses. He was repeatedly beaten on speed rushes. His run blocking was much better than he pass protection. DJ Scaife and Donaldson are better tackles. How bad are the backups?

Dan Enos: I know the blocking was atrocious, but I did not think he was creative in trying to get Williams away from pressure with rollouts or being in the shotgun. He tried a few jet sweeps and screens but overall the offensive was not creative. Never really spread Florida out and only called one screen (to Pope). The Tate Martell package was ill timed and ineffective.

Special Teams: Can’t miss a short field goal and drop a punt against most teams especially a good one. Also gave up a first down on a fake punt which led to a td. These plays simply cost Miami the game.

Will Mallory: His Greentree performances did not transfer to the game. Non-existent in this game. When he was in a play he dropped a few catchable balls. He is no where near the level of Brevin.

Defensive Line and Linebackers: While the defense was solid overall, there were no “flash” plays from the front seven. They had one coverage sack right before half time

I thought Zion looked like a true freshman and obviously struggled. I was kind of surprised with the snap counts though. The gators can clearly see JW clapping and trying to snap the ball. Would it be better to use a cadence or to verbally snap the ball? Maybe this could help with them timing the claps. There were numerous times where a DE would run by our tackles as they were still in their stance and it got me to thinking how easy it much be since they are able to see the claps. I’m sure it’s not easy with how loud it is but it made me wonder what we can do to avoid that. Snapping it on the second or third clap from time to time would help too.

I am slightly dissapointed in our DL for not being able to create much of a rush by themselves. I feel like Baker was hesitant to blitz due to young secondary. But that means everyone on the DL needs to bring it. I did like the game plan with the spy they created with Garvin. Was effective when it was called.

I noticed on one of the backs off Nelson, it took Nelson a .5 second to react to the snap and by that time the Florida DE was already passed him
