First Three Plays Of The Notre Dame Game

Clearly they were scripted, but can anyone explain how you could possibly design three run plays in a row to start a game, when you have a team that has not been able to consistently run the ball the entire season. (don't say they were trying to establish the run as that would be idiotic)
