Finebaum

He's never liked Notre Dame.

Ever since the 2012 BCS Title game where Big Game Brian Kelly got the sh*t beat out of'em by Bama, he's always called Notre Dame total frauds.

He didn't think they deserved to be in the National title game last year either, even though they made it through the playoffs.

He might not think much of Miami, but he thinks even less of Notre Lame.
I guess he has one redeeming quality😂

But losing early as opposed to later in the season definitely matters. ND and the SEC teams that get the bias can lose early and at best they stay out the top 3 if they win out. Big deal if they still get in right?

In 2024, Notre Dame had 10 games to make the world forget about Northern Illinois. This year, they have 10 games to make the world forget about the Miami and aTm losses.

In 2024, Miami had 0 games to make the world forget about Syracuse. This year, we have 4 games to make the world forget about the SMU loss.

Recency matters.

If the committee is smart, you force Miami and ND in the playoff (assuming both win out) and you match them up round 1. You also throw Oregon into Miami's side of the bracket, and if it makes sense OSU.

The whole concept of a playoff is to generate more revenue, and it's done by creating intriguing storylines.

BYU, Utah, and Vandy are cute stories but no one cares. Force feed the matchups and make your money college football
Disagree. It’s tough to beat a team twice. It would remind me of the UGA/Bama battles back in the day. Playing in the regular season and again in the SEC CG.

My scenario was about what made sense for the CFP bottom line not necessarily what I thought was in Miami's best interest outside of making the playoffs.

The whole situation is about making money. Miami-ND round 2 brings eyeballs and dollars

What makes sense is for the CFP committee to rank the teams fairly to keep the integrity of the sport and not worry about what matchups are enticing or what makes $.

It is more complex when people forget about the two ND losses in the first two weeks.

RECENCY BIAS. People need to wake up and learn what it is. We need to beat Pitt and we need Pitt to look as threatening as possible before we do it.

Like it or not, the SEC plays meaningful games in November. And I'm not talking about "5-way tie for first place" meaningful, when DUKE still has a shot at the championship game, I'm talking about Top 25 vs. Top 25 meaningful.

live look at mario last year when we had to beat syracuse
