When Golden's hacked do we go after an offensive or defense head coach? Offense seems to be the trend lately and it's been paying dividends.

Taking a look at who's been in the big game the last few years.

2013- FSU: Jimbo Fisher (Offensive minded) beat Malzahn (Offensive minded)
2012- Alabama: Saban (Defensive minded) beat Brian Kelly (Offensive minded)
2011- Alabama defeated LSU (Defensive minded)
2010- Auburn: Chizik (Defensive mind) defeated Chip Kelly (Offensive mind) riding the back of Malzahn

Alabama's dominated the championships but seems to have taken a step back with their lack of offense this season.

Looking at the top 20 coaches in winning %. Ya it's skewed because of sample size but it's just a look

1. Chris Peterson (Offensive)
2. Gus Malzahn (Offensive)
3.Urban Meyer (Offensive
4. Mark Helfrich (Offensive)
5. Jimbo Fisher (Offensive)
6. David Shaw (Offensive)
7. Bob Stoops (Defensive)
8. Nick Saban (Defensive)
9. Brian Kelly (Offensive)
10. Bobby Petrino (Offensive)
11. Mark Richt (Offensive)
12. Gary Patterson (Defensive)
13. Hugh Freeze (Offensive)
14. Steve Spurrier (Offensive)
15. Les Miles (Offensive) Although I do believe their success has relied on Chavis and the defense
16. Mark Hudspeth (Offensive)
17. Jim Mora (Defensive)
18. Tim DeRuyter (Defensive)
19. Bo Pelini (Defensive)
20. Kevin Sumlin (Offensive)

Top 10 before this weekend

1. FSU (Offensive)
2. Auburn (Offensive)
3. Mississippi State (Offensive)
4. Ole Miss (Offensive)
5. Baylor (Offensive)
6. Notre Dame (Offensive)
7. Alabama (Defensive)
8. Michigan State (Defensive)
9. TCU (Defensive)
10. Arizona (Offensive)

Even the SEC, a defensive minded conference is dominated by offensive minds now.

Offensive: TAMU, Ole Miss, MSU, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Missouri, Auburn
Defensive: Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Vanderbilt (Build up by an offensive mind in Franklin),

LSU: Offensive minded head coach that's more of a CEO with a more defensive identity.

Besides Saban the best coaches we've seen lately have been offensive minds. Urban, Chip Kelly, Malzahn ect. I know our defense has been so bad its made us look toward defensive guys like Narduzzi and Butch but the games changed. Maybe it's something to consider.

it's not offensive-defensive minded. Best coaches pretty much fall in two categories now. QB coaches or DB coaches. Football is a passing friendly game now. You want to win you better get someone who knows how to coach it or defend it.

Qb vs DB is a bit black and white. A lot more goes into defending a passing game than DB's

Defense wins championships. That will never change.

Give me a QB guru and offensive mind at Miami. With the talent and speed in South Florida it won't be as difficult to get an attacking 4-3 scheme and coordinator to have success as it will be for an offense. FSU just keeps plugging in different DC's without missing a beat.

Florida is an example of that. Their defense is sharp but the've had huge problems getting a QB in who can move the ball, or a coordinator who can move the ball without a great one. I think its much easier to field a solid defense at Florida than an offense because of the huge reliances offenses have on QB's.
