I know it’s the flavor of the month to hate the kid, but if you are being honest with yourself, SJ was very solid at center.

 

I rewatched the first half last night and made a point to pay attention to the line and Congdon was by far the biggest difference maker in the interior. There was a play in the second quarter where he blocked two dudes at once and cleared the way for a nice gain. It was more a case of a CMU defender being out of position and getting bowled over by a teammate that was being blocked but it was still impressive.

I’m not so sure max has locked in RG. I want to see merriweather keep rotating when possible to either push Max or take his spot. Max hasn’t been good enough to say that spot is his.

It does appear Cantwell is Tackle 3 now which is where he should’ve stayed all along. He isn’t a guard. Let the kid keep learning and get spot duty when possible.

I’ve rewatched as well. He wasn’t overly tested but when he was in the game improvement was noticeable. I believe we have found our starter at LG.

Not only SJ, but Mccoy is getting worked at RT. We need Cantwell to take that spot asap, and let Mccoy go back to guard. That lineup needs to start getting chemistry together yesterday, as it is by far the best for a playoff run. I hope we see it soon.

From everything I have read Cantwell has been playing LT.

I agree if Cantwell could play RT and you slide McCoy to guard it’s your biggest lineup but not sure Cantwell is ready for the bright lights .

I thought Meriweather outplayed Max but we need both to be consistent contributors for this season. We will need them both at some point.

 

Merriweather can play he moves people and doesn’t look lost in space when pulling.

Their snaps should be 50/50 against Clemson and let the best man win the job over the bye week as we head into FSu.

I just posted I think Meriweather outplayed Max but we need both this year to play at a high level because there will be injuries at some point. Just pray to god nothing serious because this Oline can not afford that.

 

Keep up the great work. Actual quality analysis is tough to come by these days

I'm fine with this. Y'all need to be clear here tho, Congdon and Max are going to whiff. Unfortunately for Max, he's kind of being punished for how bad SJ has been. Trust me I have watched every single game multiple times focusing on the G and C play. Max has been consistently the best G and better than Ryan at times. He's better in the run game vs pass pro.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about with Max. He had the highest PFF score of any of our OL and palyed an excellent game. He missed 1 LB at the 2nd level on a Lyle pass. That's it folks. Max can play. Put some respect on his name

Looks like the staff is working on fast tracking Jacob Hawks as well, he has played 46 snaps so far this season. Add him to the mix and that’s 10 guys to work with.

Good stuff man. I’ve had an obsession with OL play since the Al Golden days. I do one replay watch of every game where I just watch the OL. Imo having 58 in there at guard will also help 76 at center. It’s not too often you have such a tiny guard that’s smaller than the center. Small , lacking power and length on top of that he doesn’t move all that well for being so small. Congdon beefs up the interior which makes life easier for 76 in the run game and pass game.

I’ve harped on this in other forums, OL is an equation and you have to be cognizant of how variables interact.

I never believed the Mirabal, “we had two starting quality C,” stuff. In fact when coaches say that it’s usually a red flag, and the reason they signed C out of portal two consecutive years, injuries noted.

Rodriguez has a respectable floor but a limited ceiling, he’s not a guy you can have an undersized guard on either side of given what we ask out of our OL, especially in the ground game. If he gets better support next to him, he too will start looking a lot better.

Preach- rods play improves with a mauler next to him. And same logic applies next year if SJ is the center

Thanks for this.. good **** even my civilian *** could understand what you meant. Do you have any quick thoughts on how the RB's are doing blocking? I only ask because while watching your breakdown I started noticing things like CWH's late blitz pickup on the second play and I was impressed that he was all the way on the other side of the line and was able to stone the blitzer right before he got to Mensah. Seemed like a big deal for a smaller guy behind all the trees to see that coming and get there in time.

Hawks has potential!

The fact that he's playing already is far expedited from what I had expected. I thought he was a 2-year project but he's closer to the Markell Bell path

 

Smh buddy should’ve had 4 games of experience under his belt at guard by now!! Wasted all that time starting SJ! By time we play ND bro would’ve already been a seasoned vet
