ESPN uniting Butch Davis, Vilma + post-coach search thoughts

but I'm sure the 97 banner had nothing to do with why he left.

Of course He didn't leave because of the banners 4 years later in 01'. If Butch wanted to leave because of a banner, He would've left in 98', the first time He turned down the Browns HC offer.

Butch Davis could have been the coach of the Browns from the beginning of their rebirth.

Browns CEO Carmen Policy said yesterday that he first considered Davis in 1998, but Davis' commitment to the University of Miami was too strong to break.

The difference with Shapiro was that he was a con artist, doing something the FBI and SEC couldn't figure out. How do you expect Dr. Shalala to know something that those organizations didn't?

LOL. Shapiro scammed Shalala's good friend, Barry Alvarez, out of a substantial sum of money, no way in **** She didn't know He was a scam artist. FOHWTS you talkin'.

So, again, you expect her to know something the FBI and SEC couldn't figure out until AFTER the ponzi scheme fell apart. Large scale Ponzi schemes tend to ensnare plenty of rich people, that's how they work. Go look at Bernie Madoff's scheme, tons of wealthy people got caught in that, including the family that owns the Mets. Should they have known? Ponzi schemes, especially successful ones tend to appear legit, even to people who do their due diligence. This wasn't Herbalife, this was on paper a legit enterprise, led by someone who people trusted.

Shalala was the worse football president we've ever had. Keeping Coker & Golden too long was criminal.

What? You realize that she, nor most university presidents at good schools aren't graded on the number of wins the football program have, right? It's amazing to see Dr. Shalala get all the blame, while the people who had the most say, who could have easily changed the course are allowed to skate. Then again, when fans refuse to learn anything about the industry and where power truly lies, you get these narratives that fly in the face of common sense. Shalala should get some blame, but the lion's share should go to the athletically inclined members of the board of trustees, AND the major boosters. They were the ones who didn't hold Paul Dee accountable, and they didn't do their job as guardians of the department.
