ESPN- midseason Grades for first year head coaches

I respectfully disagree. I do agree that Mario hasn’t done himself any favors and he may even have a failing grade right now but I am pretty sure that Manny wouldn’t have done any better this year record wise then Mario.

Think about this logically, Mannys defense was WAY worse and most of the best players on defense have been the transfers on the Dline. Remember how bad the depth on the d line was when Mario got here and how hard he hit the portal? I think Manny may have added a guy or 2 at the most but he also would have been starting Chantz Williams with Jabari Ishmael rotating in. We wouldn’t have had Nyjaleek Kelly because if Manny stayed HC, Kelly was gone. We would have been so thin on the 2 deep for the whole d line that a few injuries here and there and we might have had to put Hedley out there. Also without Mario we don’t land Wesley B.

Now to the offense, I don’t really know how to predict this side of the ball. Lashlee left for the HC gig at SMU and took some offensive assistants with him. Transfers don’t have as big of an impact on this side of the ball so with that and not knowing the off coord and scheme we will call this a draw. Even though they lost TVDs 2 biggest weapons from last year. In the fairness of this argument we would assume the same injuries happened and Citizen went to Florida because he wouldn’t come to Miami to play for Manny. I feel the offense would have regressed but without quantifiable data we will call it a wash.

With the defense being worse we would have lost to VT and probably Southern Miss as well. We probably wouldn’t have lost to MTSU because I blame that loss on the current coaching staff. I think Manny would be 2-4 right now just like last season.

Mario and staff have definitely underperformed and have not earned their salaries so far but let’s see how the rest of the season plays out. If we can close out 5-1 and beat FSPOO then he will get a C+or maybe B- if they start to dominate and win the bowl game. Then bring in a top 7 class and I feel he will get this juggernaut rolling again. Think about the quality of the recruits and transfers he brought in since he got here. If him and Zo can have a better hit rate on their evaluations and then develop the players we will start to make a run.
Manny would've been a game better bc he wouldn't have lost to MTSU

That FIU team was worse. The worst team we have lost to in at least 40 years. For perspective, they lost 50-17 to MTSU that season.

Nah, a first time HC inherited a completely dysfunctional and marginally talented QB against FIU.

This experienced HC inherited a talented, sizzling hot QB and somehow made him dysfunctional.

But it’s gotten better, so there is hope going forward.

We're paying mario + coaching staff ~16M making them one of the highest paid staffs in the country. They inherited a top 15 roster in terms of recruiting talent that included one of the most touted QBs in the country. We're 3-3 with an absolute cupcake of a schedule. A D+ grade is generous at this point in the season. Can they improve? Sure, but at this point its clear this coaching staff has underperformed and deserve the level of criticism they're getting.

Unfortunately I agree with this smfh. Mario definitely has a higher ceiling than Manny but what a kick in the balls it would be if they both ended up 7-5.

I dont question the firing but Manny could have easily been 10-2, UNC, UVA, n FSU.

And he could have easily been 3-9 with less than 1 TD wins against App St, GT, Pitt, and GT..

I think 7-5 accurately reflected our team last year.

Nothing you wrote here addresses my actual comment.

Yeah I added that in my analysis but with his putrid defense and not bringing in such good d line talent like Mario did they would have lost to VT and Southern Miss so they would have at least one more loss on the season if Danny Miaz was still the HC.

We didn't play Alabama and a top ten Michigan state this season. The team was veteran.

No excuses. Mario is ***. Should have let Manny develop his players one more year. So pathetic.

Gotta be an F so far.

He’s lost the team, lost the fan base and about to lose the recruiting class all in 7 games

I mean this team looks incredibly worse than last year with almost everyone returning and a top 10 paid coaching staff

Mario has to do some soul searching because if he thinks just recruiting is going to fix this, he’s going to be getting fired after 3 seasons just like his predecessors

P.S. I don’t care if you’re the best salesperson in the world, recruiting is going to suck if the product put on the field is boring, and players are regressing. Mario is going to look like an average recruiter real quick without Alabama accolades and Nike Money

It's an F and it aint pretty. I'm still a Mario believer but he's gotta learn to be more adaptable. I think most of us had higher than reasonable expectations but the results are damning

No way in **** I'd ever think we'd be anything other than 3-0 or 2-1 against MTSU,Duke, and UNC. Just embarassing.
