It has been reported that Mark Richt gave up play calling in 2007 and became more of a CEO type. It has also been reported that the AD was putting pressure on him for this type of change (why, I don't know).
I'm splitting Richt's time at UGA into two time periods... 2001-Stafford Era vs 2009-2015.
The reason I am splitting it like this is because Stafford (06-08) came in when Richt was more of the QB coach and Play caller, which probably had more pull with recruits and with getting Stafford there. During Stafford's time at UGA Richt gave up the play calling and QB coaching duties but I assume there was probably some residual coaching/play calling that rubbed off on Stafford and the OC the next year or two.
Stafford was a phenom that got thrown into the starting job when UGA's QB got hurt in 2006. He was a true freshman and I think UGA would have done better than 9-4 in 2006 if their senior QB didn't go down. We know the rest about Stafford. This is just a side note.
Back to the point... Richt’s record and win percentage from 2001 through Stafford’s years are much better than after Richt gave up control of the offense and then Stafford left.
Year W-L

OVERALL
2001-2008 = 0.788 Overall win Pct -- 10.25 wins per season
2009-2015 = 0.685 Overall Win Pct -- 9.00 wins per season
BOWL RECORDS
2001-2008 = 6-2
2009-2015 = 3-3
Richt has said in three different interviews I have watched already that he wants badly to get back to teaching and coaching QB's and calling plays and be involved in the offensive scheming. He will do that at UM because I am sure he has complete control of his program. We all know that the DC hire will be a huge factor but with him running the offense and coaching the QB's I am confident we get the Mark Richt from his early years at UGA.
Let me know what you think.
