Kevin Scott's Signing Day Announcement to be on FOX Sports West
USC target and three-star defensive lineman Kevin Scott will make his decision public on Wednesday during Fox Sports West’s local Signing Day special. The show is set to air at 1:00 p.m. Pacific and feature Scout recruiting analyst Greg Biggins. Scott announced the time via his Twitter account.

Last week, the Los Angeles native announced a final five of USC, Ole Miss, Miami, Purdue and San Diego State. At the moment, it looks like the first three have the edge, given that he’s visited each in the final couple of weeks.

Scott was at USC in the middle of last week for an official visit, while this past weekend, he was in Oxford to check out Ole Miss.

In order to make room for Scott, Steve Sarkisian had to offer Clayton Johnston an advanced blueshirt scholarship as reported by TrojanSports.com. That, along with the proximity to home could give USC an edge.

Case and point? Scott himself tweeted on Friday that he wasn’t too fond of traveling on an airplane. But of course, USC uses airplanes to get to road games.

Blueshirting:
The short explanation is that certain players beyond the official 25 can enroll and be eligible to play in the fall while technically counting towards the class of 2016. The loophole is available to players who have not been recruited in an official sense by the USC. So long as they did not take an official visit, receive an in-home visit from Trojan coaches or get sent an official LOI by USC, those players could join the team in the fall.

Football Recruiting: What is a Blueshirt?
If you’ve followed USC football recruiting this year, you’ve probably noticed that the Trojans can only take 24 scholarship players, as opposed to the standard class of 25 initial scholarships. That is due to the phenomenon known as the blueshirt.

The Trojans made placekicker Matt Boermeester a blueshirt last fall, which has limited the 2015 recruiting class to 24.

So what is a blueshirt?

Blueshirting is an NCAA rule exception for oversigning that began at New Mexico State (NCAA Bylaw 15.5.6.3.3), which allows athletes to practically serve as early enrolling grayshirts, as long as the recruiting class is full.

They are eligible to both enroll and play during the initial fall semester following their high school graduation or junior college transfer, but are not counted as an incoming scholarship player until the following year’s recruiting class.

It’s a contrast from grayshirts, who are not permitted to enroll or play immediately out of high school.

The biggest distinction for blueshirts however, is that the rule interpretation mandates that the players in question are not recruited.

That is defined by the NCAA as not having any of the following: an official visit to the school, an in-home visit from the school’s coaching staff or a letter of intent issued for the student athlete to submit.

If neither of those have occurred, the player is eligible to be a blueshirt beginning the day after fall camp starts. At that point, he may be awarded a scholarship and counted forwarded to the next year’s recruiting class...........

With blueshirting having been used by the Trojans, Steve Sarkisian now has just four scholarships remaining with 20 committed players plus Boermeester all in tow.

Luckily for USC, there’s exactly four key targets remaining on the board: Iman Marshall, Porter Gustin, Rasheem Green and John Houston.

Bylaw 15.5.6.3.3 A student-athlete not recruited (per Bylaw 15.02.8) by the institution who receives institutional financial aid (based in any degree on athletics ability) after beginning football practice becomes a counter but need not be counted as an initial counter until the next academic year if the institution has reached its initial limit for the year in question. However, the student-athlete shall be considered in the total counter limit for the academic year in which the aid was first received.

Another absolutely miserable DT class for Alfred. Absolute, total failure. His successor will have a real cloud.
