Did anyone do game introductions like CBS in the 80s?

seriously, there was something about the way the lead into the games. They just set the stage like no other. Whether it was Brent Musberger(who Miami fans certainly had a hate-hate relationship with -- but c'mon, the guy was good!) or Jim Nantz, and the music, the clips and the editing. There was something special about our games on CBS back then as an independent renegade program.

here's the 1986 Oklahoma intro:

Nothing beats CBS's NBA & CFB pre-game intros...ABC's CFB pre-game intros weren't bad either when Keith Jackson did the narrating. Man I miss those days, we had it good.
Good? Good? Man, y’all crazy as ****. there used to be what, 3…4 games … a weekend? A weekend!!! ESPN does that on one channel now — and they have several channels.

And, back then, to my surprise, every TV station in the United States didn’t show the UM/FSU game (I’m actually having heart palpitations just remembering). How the **** do you not show the UM/FSU game? And, what was on instead of the UM/FSU game? An obscure “activity” that I didn’t know existed until that point — and I’m too angry to type it. I’m still mad.

FU CaneSince4Ever! FU for bringing that up and making me remember!

Whooo-saaaah! Whoooo-saaaaah!

NBC football had a solid approach, especially when **** Enberg was narrating the intro.

“You’re looking live...” with the CBS theme song and with Brent Musberger’s voice was the pinnacle of CFB. The CBS theme song is the best sports theme song of all time. 2nd was the nbc nba one.
And Pat Summerall & John Madden calling NFL games on CBS, legendary $h!t. CBS had the announcing game on lock!!!

The heyday. We gave only the only 3 looses they had over 3 years. They were fantastic and we shoved it down tier throats in Norman, I was there, at the OB, that game and I was there, and then the next year if the OB Game for the NC, yes, I was there. I know tons of OU grads and they never forgave us for stopping that little wagon. They were the bad goys of college football and proud of it, so when we took that from them in their house and they never got it back they still hate us. After the NC game the next year, Barry said he was never playing us again because he just could not beat us -- yes sir, got to love old Barry for being the only honest coach in football.

That song at the start of a Miami game gives me the chills like the National Anthem does. Has the drama worthy of our Cane back then. They were the greatest show on earth for 10 solid years.

The world we live in now tells us college football's played by "kids who are STUDENT athletes." it changes the way you introduce the competition. it's annoying

One of John Routh’s classics

For the youngsters John was Sebastian Back in the day. He was in a class of his own.
Date: Jan. 1, 1988

• Where: Miami

• Event: The Canes defeat Oklahoma at the Orange Bowl and win the 1987 national championship.

Routh says: "Oklahoma has their Sooner Schooner. I went to a toy store and bought a little wagon and took a pillowcase and made a little schooner.

"We ended up winning 20-14. Oklahoma had the ball with about 35 seconds left, fumbled and we recovered. I had some towels in the wagon and lit them on fire and I had a scooter and had the wagon tied behind me.

"I came pulling up in the end zone with the play at the other end of the field. One kneel-down and the game was over. Little pieces of the flames were falling out the back of the schooner and making a little trail across the end zone. I was told by one of the referees later that one of the guys was about to throw a flag and thought, 'Forget it, the game is over with, they only have to kneel down.'"

That intro is a lost art. That series alone gave Vinny his heisman.
