Destiny

Destiny has been out for more than a week now. Having fun?

During this first phase of our shared adventure, we’ve been thrilled to let you lead the way. On the monitors mounted to our studio walls, our development team has observed your Fireteam. We’ve spectated your missions, your battles, and your Raids. You’ve honored us (and yourselves) with your bravery and gunfire.

Feeling strong yet? To give you a head start, our fiercest killers have been grounded. Their most powerful builds have been kept under tight wraps so that you could discover for yourselves how a legendary Guardian looks and fights.

Now, it’s time for us to join our own party.

Bungie has always enjoyed sharing games with our community. Destiny will be no different. Instead of targeting specific community leaders or luminaries to step up and try to cave in our helmets, we’re randomizing the event. To put it a different way, we’re putting a bounty on our own heads.

Each week, a Bungie team will enter the Crucible.

Each week, you’ll be invited to hunt them.

Each week, those of you who defeat them will win this player emblem.

When fellow Guardians see The Sign of Opposing Will on your nameplate they’ll ask, “Where did you get that?”

You’ll be able to tell them, “I beat Bungie at their own game!”

Your mission (if you choose to accept it) is:
Clash
Thursday, September 18th
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Pacific
PlayStation 4

Encountering us will not be enough to earn your reward. You’ll need to achieve victory against our designated team. Here are some of your marks:

imtylerdurden Josh Hamrick, Senior Designer
CE_Wizard Jon Weisnewski, Designer
Thug Larz Lars Bakken, Design Lead
ShatteredNeo Brandon Lewis, Crucible Tester

DeeJ BNG Yours Truly, Community Manager

…and alternates to be named at gametime.

To claim your prize, win. Then, post a link to your victory in the comments below this article before High Noon (Pacific) the following day (Friday). Look for the Permalink in the upper right corner of every match view. Your link should lead us to something like this. No proof, no reward!

Winners will be announced in the Bungie Weekly Update. Player emblems will appear in the Tower on the following Tuesday. This is a test of your skill in battle, your navigation of Bungie.net, and your luck.

Stay tuned. We’ll do this often. Every playlist. Every platform.

As we are fond of saying lately, we're just getting started.

I just hit lvl 23

How did you get up there so quickly? I keep seeing people in the mid-20s but I'm down around 15 or 16. Is there a secret to leveling faster?

The key is to get bounties that stack onto each other. You can double-up on bounties that'll save you some time.

EX: Crucible - pick up a bounty that asks you to play five control/clash games, plus several others that ask for 25 titan/warlock/hunter kills, and 5 postmortem medals, etc.

EX: "Campaign" - do any combination of the following:

THESE (Planet specific)
Bounty on an enemy in a mission
AND/OR
Complete 6 Patrol Missions
AND/OR
Pick up 200 (insert item here) from enemies on (planet). (This one stacks with the two above)

PLUS (Non-planet specific)
Kill 100 enemies without dying.
Get 9000 EXP without dying.
Melee 30 enemies without dying.
Get 200 precision kills.
etc.
etc.
etc.

Level 20 before you know it. Even after you hit 20 doing this will get you reputation for one of the clans that you decide to join when you hit lvl20. I'm doing that now for Dead Orbit and I'm about to hit Rank 2 so I can buy their Legendary Armor sets.

Bounties. Crucible as well.
Dammit! I suck at PvP. Went into the Crucible a couple days ago and got my *** handed to me. Think I figured out that everyone was using Fusion Rifles though.

I'm an above average pvp player, usually 1.5 to 1.7 k/d, and I was getting smoked too. Don't feel bad.

I was struggling since I preferred the Pulse Rifle in PvE. Once I started using the Auto Rifle in PvP my K:D got a lot better.

I can't even play xb1 rt now I'm depressed my body is numb, I don't even care how my nfl team is doing. The canes have ripped my heart out

PvP can be real hit or miss. I would say I'm an above average PvPer but I definitely get my *** handed to me every now and again.

For PvP, I agree, use shottys over the fusion rifle. I prefer the scout rifle over the auto rifle, though, but I think that is just personal preference.

Those of you already in the clan check out the group forums on our clan site. I've posted a bunch of new and VERY VERY helpful stuff

The 1.0.2 patch will go live next week, and includes several changes to the Cryptarch and Engram experience. These changes guarantee that Engrams will always decode into items at or above the quality of an engram.
Only Engrams that drop after 1.0.2 are subject to this change.
Cryptarch Changes

  • Cayde-6 took the Cryptarch aside and showed him a sack of doorknobs. He decoded that mystery pretty quickly.
  • Legendary Engrams will always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics
  • Rare Engrams will always produce Rare or better quality items
  • Rare engrams will have an increased chance to produce Legendary quality items

Activity Changes

Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will include Rare and Legendary Engrams in addition to their existing rewards
Item Changes

  • Ascendant materials have been promoted to Legendary to closer associate them with the gear they are used to upgrade
  • Legendary Engram items that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality when the patch goes live, so decode them while you can. But let’s be honest--even if you don’t, we all know they were blues already...
