Defensive Tackles

When was the last time our DTs used a swim move?

They schematically don't go into the backfield. They "control" the line of scrimmage. They aren't supposed to be using swim moves. Understand what the coaches are having the players do and you will understand why the defensive tackles don't make plays. This is the reason Chickillo is slammed by the fans and praised by the coaches. He is doing what he is coached to do. His Dad was an all-american DT. Do you really think he doesn't know technique? He showed it in high school. SCHEMATICALLY, you are expecting him to play like a 4-3 end or 4-3 DT where he can get into the backfield and be disruptive. He is not playing that position. His role is to 2-gap the offensive tackle to stop the run. Then, he sheds to make the tackle. It is as misdirected as asking why Peyton Manning doesn't run like Vick. They are playing different positions even though the name is the same.

Watch a game from youtube with this in mind and it will become very clear.

Our scheme sucks. We will struggle to find DTs and the ones we do will look like ****. Coach in an area filled with savages who are usually undersized but blessed with speed and agression. So our brilliant staffs decides to fatten them up and play read and react.

This will answer your questions but for scheme we run DT's/NT's using a swim while tring to control two gaps is not feasible.

And that is why the scheme sucks and is completely out of place in SFla. If Golden isn't gone, Chad Thomas is going to be doing the same thing for 3 more years.

Remember when Valentine admitted he put on Miami's film and "didn't want to spend 3 years lining up like a dog taking a shlt" ?

The secret is out. If you're a DL - forget DT - why would you come here? You wanna squat every play then play ****y slaps and not rush the QB? Go to some SEC school and play on a savage defense that attacks. I don't blame them, and I think less of any DL, or recruit for that matter, that chooses to come here and play for Golden.

I like Moten and Jenkins seemed like a nice backup, the rest might as well be trash bags full of grass clippings.

This. All of it.

The Luther Robinson saga was the one that did it for me. Luther Robinson had an NFL burst off the line, which was impressive for a kid his size. The kid had 3, count 'em, THREE starts in his UM career, yet made it to the NFL. I recall one game where Luther Robinson got the start, did really well, got into the backfield on a number of plays, only to be chastised by dorito for not playing within the scheme and subsequently benched...for the rest of his career. Didn't start again til senior day.

THAT is the bull**** that we have for a coaching staff at UM. Dorito and al are simply unqualified to coach at this level.
