Thank God for Manny Diaz and his D! Only thing I can say that was worth attending that game yesterday was as always the great defense and the hot chick that sits two rows in front of me!
What we asked of our defense this year was unfair and reckless from a head-coaching standpoint. Willis delivered and led a defense that is one of the best in years around here, thanks. The stats don't lie and Manny Diaz should be proud of leading the nation in TFL's and a dominating performance last night, all while being put in outrageous positions on a routine basis by our offense. If we are not scoring on two play drives we are turning it over on a two play drive, last night that actually happened. I expected our defense to start folding at the end of the game but they continued to pour it on and for that I was proud to be a hurricane last night.
Great year for our defense and that is when you give a guy an extension on a contract, not after losses or poor performances, but for outstanding work. Just a few years ago we were being coached on defense by a guy that absolutely knew nothing and still does not about stopping an opposing team. As our former coach was busy this week giving up another 600yd performance to his opposition while destroying his team's chances to move forward to their conference championship, AGAIN, we were busy producing another great year of defensive performance capped off by a 200 total yards given up to the Coastal division champs. What a remarkable turnaround especially for a team that can't do much of anything on offense and continually forces our defense to play exceedingly too long.
In the past we have extended losers like Larry Coker in contract extensions directly after his loss to FSU 10-7. Our athletic department and BOT appears to make that a trend, extending losers after losses regularly, Mark Richt is just the latest. Well Manny Diaz has literally carried this team with his defense, hime and a bunch of 19-22 year olds helped save the season for a guy that is in charge of an offense that goes nowhere not because of talent but in spite of having the talent. So Coach Richt is literally making $4MM a year in spite of his own direct involvement with this enterprise from an operational standpoint, if he wanted to stay involved and keep making that money he might be wise to keep Diaz around and hire someone to do the part of his job that he can't do himself, namely run an offense that can actually move the ball. Does anyone ever watch our team play, not one player goes in motion, the QB takes a snap from the shotgun 99% of the time and claps to let everyone in the stadium know the ball is ready to be snapped, it was so bad last night that the entire stadium clapped when Perry clapped, we look as archaic as an offense from the 1940's. Sad, but all true.
