Dawson is what prevented us from a title. We probably need a new OC

The anti-Dawson rabidity is certifiably insane.

He absolutely did not lose us that game. You are out of your minds.
Yeah I think it’s weird, we literally had our best offense ever the year before, next season we should have a much less limited qb.

Two criticisms I have of Dawson after that game are:
  1. He struggles to put together successful drives early on if the other team is stuffing duo, like IU was. He eventually realized our wide zone runs were working against them, but it took way too long (2nd half) to get to that realization. Credit to IU's defense, but 4 drives to open the game where we couldn't move the ball at all was bad. Our defensive performance early is the reason we had a chance to come back late in the game. IU easily could have been up 17-21 points at halftime.
  2. He fell back into the 100% run on 3rd/4th & 2 or less yards to go trap against IU. Unfortunate. He had done a great job in the prior 3 playoff games of mixing passes into those situations - 5 times by my count.

The bold is a real issue. He figures out just about everyone as the game goes on. But against more talented squads, that can be too little, too late.

In the 4th quarter, once we went with tempo out of desperation it caused Indiana massive problems and we were driving the ball down the field on them.

I hope next year we employ some of that with Mensah.

Dawson issues:
1. Run game is caveman like. No imagination at all, defenses like Indiana knew what was coming and it was not efficient as a result. Need outside runs, counter treys , stretch plays ,just more variety to keep defenses honest. Also pitch sweeps at times. Once you run outside consistently it opens up inside runs
2. Passing game is mediocre at best. Route trees are very basic and very few open receivers.
Need to have better concepts to create open guys:
1. Rub/ pick routes
2.Shallow crossers and Chris crosses
3. Swing passes to RBs
4.Screen passes to RBs
5.Sideline routes with back shoulder throws combined with go routes
Basically his O concepts are flawed and lead to inefficient play.

If Dawson were to leave, my great fantasy would be some how snagging Mike McD. Pipe dream probably but my god that would be sick.
