Darian Mensah Is PFF's Highest-Graded QB Through Week 4

Ahead of Week 5, Miami Hurricanes star-studded signal-caller Darian Mensah has been named among the top highest-graded quarterbacks in the country according to Pro Football Focus.

Through four games, PFF gave Mensah a 94.1 grade. He ranks ahead of Julian Saying (92.5), Anthony Colandrea (92.4), and Keelon Russell (91.9).

This season, Mensah has been putting up video game numbers with a completion percentage of 88.7%. In four contests, he has completed 94 of his 106 passing attempts for 1,211 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. He has yet to turn the ball over. His best outing was against Stanford, where he completed 27 of his 30 passes for 401 yards and five scores.

It always seems like Mensah makes the right read at the right time. His elite ball placement and his smart decision making separates him from the rest. I don't care who you're playing against, recording a completion percentage of 88.7% is really impressive.

According to CBS Sports, Mensah is already making an early case for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. Head coach Mario Cristobal has another great quarterback on his hands after coaching former No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and last year's signal-caller Carson Beck. Mensah could potentially be the next No. 1 overall pick in the draft if he keeps it up.

The Hurricanes have played a lot of tune-up games, and he will get his first test against a solid Clemson Tigers defense when the Hurricanes travel to Clemson this Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Love it, but these grades continue to crack me up. Stockton is very limited in what he can do. Somehow that needs to be accounted for in a ranking system.

I think Wake Forest was a Test , Wake Forest may not be as Talented on Defense as Clemson but the do play in there System at leas the Front 7 very well.

They Tattooed Louisville Qb all Day, impose its will on Louisville O- Line . Louisville is as explosive 🧨 as any Team .
With Dual Threat Qb, Two - Home run Hitting Running back & Speed at Recievers.

Wake Forest may actually be solid 9-3 Team. What were they Last year? What was Clemson?

USA Today says Mensah has been “operating in the shadows” due to a lousy schedule and games airing on CW & ACC channels. According to their writer this weekend will be his “debut” in the real world of prime time ABC broadcast at Clemson so he needs to perform at the highest level to get attention of the voters. Blah, blah, blah.

PFF is complete trash. It's basically the AP Top 25 of player grading, a group of supposed analysts watching plays and deciding whether something was extraordinary, above average, basic, or below expectations.

If Sayin had Mensah's production, there would be a much larger gap between the two players in PFF's grading. That's the problem with the system, the actual production seems to matter far less than the analysts' interpretation of how each play looked.

Mensah is producing at a completely different level statistically, yet PFF has them nearly even. If you flipped the production and gave Sayin Mensah's numbers, I guarantee the narrative around his PFF grade would change dramatically.

I don't disagree with this.

When I saw all the PFF numbers, i was expecting Mensah to be on Pluto with the numbers, solely due to his completion percentage and the fact he has not produced one turnover worthy play (i.e., no wrong throws or close to it) in four games.

I don't understand it, just look at the completion percentage alone, a difference of 16% and Sayin is at 72%, and you're telling their pretty much the same level of player? Crazy work man.

We've all seen Sayin play, take away J Smith and he's looking like Manning or Mateer.

Take away Toney from Mensah, he's still gonna be stud. Proof is in the pudding when Ward was here with Restrepo etc.

I think Wake would knock off a lot of teams in the SEC.
Running Wake through a hypothetical system if they played an 8 SEC schedule as of today.

Kentucky W
South Carolina W
Arkansas W
Mississippi State W
Missouri W/L
Oklahoma W
Tennessee W/L
Georgia L

They could end up either 5-3 or 7-1 in the SEC

What cracks me up is that any of these guys have a rating anywhere close to Mensah's.

Interesting considering our Wake Forrest Game was on ESPN. 🤷‍♂️
