D$ drinking the Kool-Aid as summer camp wraps up. ... I don't give a **** that Willis ended up not being drafted, he was a once-every-four-years type of player. Ford, Bethel and cast may be an excellent group. But Willis was special. He's going to start in the NFL this season.
p.s., I do think the senior LB combined with a quality DT group make the full front 7 as good as last year.
Watching games I would agree about Willis until the draft process started for him (don’t care that he went undrafted he was a 2nd day talent without a doubt regardless). Lots of scouts questioned his play between the flash plays that we don’t see as fans. Basically saying he was pushed around on the interior. When he lost leverage he was done but when he won off the snap he was killing you in the backfield, etc.
His productivity in terms of numbers and stats won’t be directly replaced at DT regardless of how far Ford has come. But if those knocks on Willis are true... Ford could provide a boost in being more “consistently good” as manny has said before.
Again, I didn’t notice any of the flaws last year watching as a fan, but lots of questions in the draft process, not just off the field. Either way, DT was more of a concern in 2 of Manny’s 3 years as a DT than it is now and both years turned out great at the position. The year we returned Mac and Norton was the only year that we didn’t question it.
