The only reason to hide under the bed is the get the weapon you have stashed there.
As a husband and father - the man should not only guide and protect them, but should also teach them to be skilled with weapons, especially firearms, how to handle them, how to use them, where they are, and when they should be used.
You make sure your house is safe, you have locks on your doors, you make sure they go to the doctor when ill or injured, you make sure they get educated, you teach them basic social behaviors, you teach them to watch for traffic when they're small, not to bring the toaster to the bathtub, how to brush and protect their teeth, and dozens of other life lessons that will help extend their very lives -
but forget, deny, or fail to teach the basics of personal responsibility when threatened by others who were NOT brought up with sensitivities to life.
It's often because the man doesn't know himself. No excuse. If you now have a family - you damned better have a paradigm shift - and learn. No shame in not being taught - but that's not an excuse for not learning.
Not talking about a two-year old, but I am talking about a wife that is skilled enough to quickly cut loose accurate firepower - since a firearm is a great equalizer. Size doesn't matter, weight, strength, nor athleticism. If a woman can shoot - she's to me more of a terror than a man.
Men tend to think a bit about the situation and that takes time - even if milliseconds of hesitation on timing, shot placement, shot counts, etc.
But a woman - she'll just react - pure instinct - and she'll kill the **** of someone threatening her children. And she's often more accurate - center mass - where the good stuff is.
This guy wasn't taught - no excuse, he wasn't skilled - no excuse, he wasn't armed - no excuse, his wife wasn't either - but the MAN's responsibility as head of the family - is to address those matters intelligently and deliberately.
Your duty as a family man - is to provide your family with every opportunity to live, love, and succeed.
Ignoring a potential problem just because you're a candyass - you maybe fear firearms, or you are unfamiliar with the basics - is all very fixable.
You have responsibilities - stated and unstated - take care of business and help you and your family.
Courage comes with confidence.
