Like many of you, I'm puzzled by Golden's responses and how staunch they are in support of this defense and how they still feel it's effective. It didn't hit me until the other day the irony of this fact.

Olsen Pierre, Anthony Chickillo, Denzel Perryman, Thurston Armbrister,Dallas Crawford, Ladarius Gunter, Tracy Howard, Deon Bush and Tyriq McCord

The first 5 of those players have been here for at least four years and the rest have been here for at least 3, yet this staff still says that players aren't executing. The fact that there are players in their 3rd and 4th years still not executing isn't a sign of poor player execution in games, but rather a sign of poor player development and instruction.

I know a lot of this seems like beating a dead horse and simply regurgitating the depressing facts, but Anthony Chickillo, Olsen Pierre, Denzel Perryman and Thurston Armbrister had seen the Georgia Tech offense 3 times prior to last Saturday, but in their fourth year they surrender 338 yards on the ground?.

Here's another statistic that's baffles me:

Miami vs G-Tech 2011- 211 Total yards, 134 Rushing
Miami vs G-Tech 2012- 419 Total Yards, 287 Rushing
Miami vs G-Tech 2013- 405 Total yards, 335 Rushing
Miami vs G-Tech 2014- 371 Total Yards, 318 Rushing

Rushing yards has increased every single year, with this year only being less by 15 yards. That's a failure on not only D'Onofrio, but Golden for showing once again they fail to prepare for a very outdated offense.

Hope for the best

It does show that Johnson is getting better at beating Al's defense. He figured out to cut down on risky pitches and focus on the dive play even more. With Dline dancing and DP line up 15 yards deep, there is now way we stop the dive. Now Al is out coached by every ACC coach. Plus the coach of any other D1 school we play. Some have talent so inferior that the better coaching isn't enough but the rest kick the crap out of us.

This is what Al Golden and Donofrio are thinking about Donna Shalala and Miami everytime they check their bank statement or get ready for an interview.

He doesn't know how to fix it. Simple as that.

Problem with Golden, aside from his inability to coach and prepare a team, and develop players is that he over complicated something that should be straightforward. When you hear a coach talk about "yards don't matter, a pass deflection is equivalent to a sack, TOP doesn't matter, forcing field goals is a win," etc you have a coach that has so thoroughly convoluted the idea of playing defense that he can't get any aspect of it to work properly. That is what is happening here.

Listen to the great defensive minds in football, their philsophies are so simple, prevent first downs, prevent any and all points on the board, get to the ball carrier, get the QB, etc. Its straight forward, its simple and its effective.

you know what's interesting? Go and watch the fast forward of the 2011 game. that defense is unrecognizable to the past couple years. It was aggressive, alignment was not as passive as it is now, etc.

Randy taught those guys how to beat GT, and Randy is 100x the defensive coach Golden is. Not surprised

Times 10 they were still Shannonized. Funny thing is everyone was talking about they couldn't wait till Shannon guys were gone. Lolz.

When you think defense what comes to mind? For me its the attacking teams of the 80's and 90's that were aggressive and attacked the offense. They dictated play from the whistle. I played and have coached. In no time of any 3 arenas, (playing/coaching/fan) have I seen such a passive back on your heels approach than what we have seen the last 3 years. It makes no sense whatsoever.

Sounds EXACTLY like when Nix would insist that all his plays were designed for major yardage and scoring points. Would't surprise me if Alf ends up corching TE's in Charleston Southern too
