Confucius say a QB who can’t run

It’s an equalizer for sure… the threat of the QB tucking and running to pick up 3rd and 6 type downs is backbreaking for defenses.

Coleman looks like he can move… don’t remember if nickel showed it in his highlights. Emory looked like he could scoot a bit granted it was Bethune

Coleman is a very effective runner, albeit not big or a long speed blazer. He’s elusive snd has enough juice to make defenses pay when he does take off, my comparison is a young Russell Wilson

We’ve had 3 QBs run for over 200 yards in a season over the past 20 years (I’m not including Jacurri, he was used just as a running back)

Cam
King
Rosier

I’m sure it’s a big coincidence that those 3 were the QBs of our best 3 teams over the past two decades. And Rosier couldn’t even throw.

It’s such an advantage to have a QB that the defense at minimum has to keep eyes on and can extend plays outside the pocket. You’re actively making things more difficult if you choose to bring guys in that don’t bring that element to the table.

We just had Cam Ward go 1st overall last year who ran a high 4.8 at the combine.

Two things.

One, Cam didn’t run at the combine, people need to stop taking Google AI as gospel. Two, even if he had that wouldn’t really change the point. He was mobile enough to not be a sitting duck in the pocket and could keep defenses honest and pick up first downs with his legs. My point wasn’t that we need a 4.4 guy back there.

One you got me there, when other sites also report the 4.87 it’s not hard to see it as the truth.

Two- I agree with with that. What I want is a QB who can move around in the pocket to buy that extra second or two before he throws, not a QB who is 1 read then takes of.

Yeah, unfortunately it’s seeming more and more common that half the websites that Google pops up at the top of searches are just aggregating info so if one catches it, they all do lol. I think they all got X’s 40 in there somehow

And completely agree. I don’t want a run first qb, just a qb that if all else breaks down can take off. And not in a, takes off on 3rd and 7 and gets tackled in space by a 4.8 linebacker for a gain of 3 kind of way.

King
Freeman lol
Rosier
Perry (least mobile on this list, but mobile)
Jacurri Brown

And of course Tate the Great

King was the only true dual threat, IMO

Rosier could run, but was a bad passer. 53% ouch!
Perry could pass, maybe as a freshman, but 38 for 44yards in 2019 doesn't scream mobile.
Brown could run, but was a below-average passer. It would have been smart to move to WR or TE a long time ago! I was actually shocked to see him at 57%, 4 pts ahead of Rosier.
