I am in complete shock that Mark Richt quit erm I mean retired. But it is for the best.

I never imagined 3 years after he was hired he would be gone. This season was the worst ever for a lot of reasons. There were no sanctions or clouds. We lost our two best offensive players. Richt flipped qbs faster than a mcdonalds employee flips burgers. The team was divided. The offense was abysmal. The fan base was enraged. We didnt beat anyone with a pulse. We lacked energy and as the season went on it got worse. This was a 5 and 1 team that finished 2 and 5.

I think BJ and the BOT realized how toxic it had gotten and did not want an embarrassing Golden repeat. The fans did their jobs. I still cant believe it escalated this quickly. But again after Shannon and Golden there is no propensity for patience in a fan base deprived from eliteness for 15 years.

I am happy but a little worried. Will Miami have the competency to select a winning coach? Can we rebuild fast enough to compete with Florida and Bama in the next few years?

That said I wish Mark the best. I am sorry he failed but he only failed because of loyalty, to himself. That may be the way he wanted to go out but he didnt have to. His mentors and Georgia enabled the mentality. Miami ended it. Then again hiring an OC, QB coach and oline coach along with losing your DC is a daunting task. Mark wanted to prove Georgia wrong and his personal pride got in the way. In the end Miami was too big for Mark and I can't believe that is even possible.

Look at where Florida was and where we were 14 months ago.
Things can change quickly.

Tracking Bama, though, may take juuust a bit of time.

In reality this was the best thing that could have happened to the program, Richt that is.
Not only did he do some great things for the program he also showed what is needed to win in the landscape of CFB today.
I’m not saying he was successful i.e. winning I mean by not winning and not changing with the tide. It finally proved that unless you adapt to today’s game you will not win.
Diaz saw that and made the change to the defense to an attacking style, now the next coach needs to make sure the offense follows suit and scraps this pro-style nonsense that the pros don’t even run any longer for the most part.
