Don't want to rip off a scab since we've won another off season, But listened to that on the WQAM rebroadcast of the Notre Dame game this afternoon while in the car. I **** near had to pull off the road and puke thinking what has happened since. Still, WTF? How did we come out and play like that on that night - like the ghosts of the Canes teams past, and do what we have since?

Yeah, that hurts bro. Not gonna lie.

ND players were rattled by fans before the game. Stadium was off the charts loud (ND players said loudest stadium they'd ever been in). Defense played inspired football and the ND QB got shook very early. Snowballed from there. Credit to offense for not killing momentum with turnovers.

If Miami played at same intensity but ND QB had ice water in veins instead of jello legs, I wonder what the final score would have been.

The atmosphere before the game at College GameDay, to the tailgating, to the actual game was the best fun I’ve had at a physical game in a long, long time. The stadium shook when Bandy stepped in front of that pass and took it back to the house. It seems wins ago after the bad seasons we’ve had since, but hopefully we’ll smell that sweet success again this season. That is if there’s a season to be had.

If you look at the statistics, that game wasn’t nearly as lopsided as the score. Miami had a pretty subpar game offensively but played good defense and most importantly, won the turnover battle. The difference between winning and losing isn’t always about domination, more often when teams are fairly evenly matched, it comes down to whoever makes the least mistakes. It’s just that it’s usually Miami losing these types of games. Turnovers, giving up special teams or defensive touchdowns, missing short field goals or shanking punts. That’s usually Miami’s m.o.

Its because that Notre Dame team was trash. Their starting QB can't even see the field at UCF.

That trash ND team beat the #15 team in the country by 20, beat the 12th team in the country by 35, beat the 23rd team in the country by 21, beat the #18 team in the country , and lost to the #2 team in the country by 1.

How exactly were they trash?

The atmosphere that night was something we haven't seen in a long time. It brought the advantage the OB used to bring. That wasn't a bad ND team, but we played our best game on D that night. Them boys were flying around for real. The VT game was pretty nice too. That season could have been special with a decent QB behind center.

Offense was pretty good that game. Remember we ran the ball 3 times in the second half. Not because Malik was struggling but because we were up big, the D was dominating and ND couldn't stop the run. We ran a distinctly different offense in 17 than 18. CMR should have kept it the same, not rattled things by letting a senior 3000yd passer lose continuity and leadership because of the talent behind him (not lack of production). Malik isn't the type of player you can do that to and then have him come off the bench and be productive in 18.

Defense and crowd got a good warm up game the week before against VT (also a great game). They were motivated with all the talk about ND big heisman candidate RB who got their attention and ND oline had 2 NFL bound guys who were headliners also. Had our full attention and ranking to back it up. The build up of 80s rivalry and gameday on campus also helped.

That crowd that day was another level, started the intimidation with throwing bottles at the ND bus (not that I condone that type of behavior, but no harm no foul), then their coach pregame interview said it all, him pointing out the 4 video screens and looking around the crowd will always be a classic, I have never heard a coach point something like that out. Atleast after their whole organization admitted they were overwhelmed so I can respect it. They hadnt been on road in like 5 weeks prior either, they werent ready

Our offense that season was trash and has been trash, we got by on smoke and mirrors. By that point in season teams werent up on the rosier draw, we probably ran it a few times that game to great affect. Also that season was original of TO chain and it had a great effect on whole team, we jumped up to #1 in country for causing to and that was our MO that season, play defense, win TO battle, get momentum and dont let Rosier punt to many balls to other team. Good times

Even that game our offense was pretty garbage

The defense single handily took Notre Dame's soul that game
Disagree, the offense put up points early on and throughout the game. Travis homer got whatever he wanted that night on the ground and ran for close to 150 yards averaging 8 yards per carry, deejay did well on the ground . Could have been a lot worse 2nd half but we ran the ball every play except like one or 2 times.
strong game for the defense and the running game. Rosier made timely plays too

If ya think the Atmosphere at UM ND 2017 was Crazy....you should've seen the 89 UM ND game....it made the 2017 Atmosphere seem like nothing....Complete Insanity for the entire game....
