Charmar Brown [Not in Portal]

He could be a feature back somewhere. I’d like to see us get an insurance policy for if/when Lyle leaves. CWH could leave also. We may be thin there
Lyle is gone. But sheesh if Marty leaves too, yes its pretty thin. Winning football player and I hope we retain them.

I could have sworn he was on the sideline for the FIesta Bowl.
I was just watching Michael Irvin’s YouTube video, and he went over to the Rb area to celebrate Marty’s TD. Lyle was the only RB I didn’t see there celebrating. Could have just be a coincidence

Haven't heard anything on Chamar but have heard buzz about Lyle
Yea Lyle's contact balance at this level isn't like he was in HS, so that did not translate to college. We need a big fast back. Cant go next season with Pringle and Fletch cause of Pringles pass blocking. We need another

Bottom line is that the staff has grossly underutilized Marty Brown in the post season. Fletcher getting essentially every single rep in two consecutive playoff games was dumb. Brown did not touch the field against TAMU, and only got in on the last drive against Ohio State. He finally got some quality burn against Ole Miss but we had 80+ offensive snaps. The kid was the feature back on that North Dakota State team that won the FCS title last year. He understands playoff football.

He's been productive all year, even when we were playing exclusively Caveman Ball. Marty Brown is like accrued vacation time under Florida law....Use it or lose it.

He's not as good as Fletcher. Why would he play more?

Would suck, but I get it. Im sure they were not pleased when Pringle came in and took his carries for a while there. And Matt Rhule is probably selling him a load of bull****

So what you're saying is Brown be fresh for Indiana.

The only thing dumb is your post. Fletcher averaged a first down every time he touched the ball against A&M and has averaged 131 yds/game in the postseason. Why on earth would you reduce his carries just to satisfy another player?

HR1 - The answer to your question is so Fletcher will be fresh for Indiana. We rode him hard over the past 3 games. It seems to have worked out from a health standpoint, but that doesnt change the fact that we have another high level back on the roster (and a competent freshman, but he's not part of this discussion).

Another aspect is.... this thread. We all seem concerned about losing Brown after the season, even more so if Fletcher decides to come out (not a done deal there). Again, I was blown away that Brown didnt touch the field at TAMU and only came into the game when Fletcher checked himself out after a minor ding late in the Ohio State game.

We corrected it during the Ole Miss game but we ran a bajillion plays. I think my point stands. Gotta use him or lose him. That's why we're having this discussion. BTW - Brown has two years of eligibility after this season.

He didnt play AT ALL against TAMU and only came into the Ohio State game when Fletcher checked himself out with a minor ding late in the 4th quarter. Otherwise he wouldn't have played at all.

Playing only one running back is poor roster management. It may end up working out for us, but its not like Brown is not worthy of the reps. He's a solid inside runner, a very good blocker, has better hands than any other running back and has experience in a playoff run.

Also, this thread is why. We could end up losing him due to lack of use in the post season. If Fletcher goes to the NFL, we'll see how it all plays out.

Luckily the playoffs are stretched out. This will be Fletcher's fourth game in 30 days and that's after a nearly month-long break before the playoffs.

Fletcher will be fine and we have fresh legs behind him, if needed.

He has earned the privilege to enter the portal. I have no issues with him going somewhere to be the featured back.

I would be sad he left but he earned the right to make more money.
I can see wanting to be the lead back - certainly his right. But man he is putting out engouh tape, without getting the ware and tear of a lead back. Either way he's gonna be drafted 2nd-3rd day so not sure the point. But its his right.

Cornhuskers seem confident that he enters the portal. Any traction there?
Please. You guys need to stop putting names only on threads like this. And if it’s going on the portal board you need to indicate in the title that they are not in the portal.

I don’t doubt that it may happen but that is not consequential to this extent. Thanks.

I don't wanna lose Brown.. and I don't think we would find an equal back to him in the portal.... I think he should get more reps per game, so its a constant 1-2 pounding on the D.. not gonna rank the RB's, but I find Brown is short yard quicker than fletcher.. they are both bruisers, but I like how Brown seems to speed through hole faster than fletch.... and fletch just seems to make big runs every game.... I would keep both happy here with money and reps and sell them on leaving tread on the tires for the NFL....

If Lyle is gone there’s plenty of carries and opportunity for Brown. I will keep saying it, just move Lofton to FB.

We're trying to win a national championship. Fletcher has been the better back all year, and he's been a horse in the playoffs. Ride him.

I like Marty, for the record. But against A&M, we didn't run anybody enough, and we couldn't stay on the field. Fletcher averaged 10 yards a carry. When did we want to play Marty? I think we ran 48 plays.

Against OSU, I thought we played it great, Fletcher was outstanding, and then Marty came in on the last drive fresh and was able to move the pile. Could we have gotten him a couple touches earlier? I suppose so, but Fletcher was running his *** off, he averaged 4.7 a carry against the best run defense in the country.

And against Ole Miss he got 14 carries, which is obviously a high number for your #2 back. And he wasn't nearly as effective as Fletcher was.

He's a fine player, but right now, he's a clear downgrade from Fletcher, who is not only running like a banshee but blocking as well as any back in America. He's your starter, we're riding him to a Natty.

That 3rd down catch was massive for us against Ohio State. Brown is limited in some areas, but he has the IT factor. Much like Fletcher….just not as talented.

This would be a huge loss imo.
