What i expect to happen this weekend
Tonight
USC vs Stanford
A battle of differing philosophies. Sam Darnold and a good air attack with a power run game of Ronald Jones vs a run heavy Stanford team lead by Bryce Love. Stanford’s Defense has been more suspect than usual. If Darnold doesn’t revert to being turnover happy like the first half’s of the season, expect the Trojans to pull away late and win by 14.
USC 34 Stanford 20
Tomorrow
UCF vs Memphis
A battle of two high octane offenses who have been clicking on all cylinders lately. Riley Ferguson and McKenzie Milton are two of the better quarterbacks that get no love or hype. Both have dangerous wideouts in Andre Miller and Trequan Smith. Both have multiple burners at Running Back in Darrell Henderson and Tony Pollard for the Tigers and Adrian Killins and Otis Anderson for the Knights. This game will come down to whichever defense can make an occasional play and get off the field on third downs. Look out for Mike Hughes as a returner for UCF. I like UCF’s defense to make more plays than their counterparts.
UCF 48 Memphis 38
Oklahoma vs TCU
The Baker Mayfield show. Can anybody slow him down? It’s always hard to beat a Gary Patterson led team twice in one season, and TCU will be out for revenge for the Sooner beatdown earlier in the year in Norman. Kenny Hill and the TCU offense will look to exploit a weak Oklahoma defense, but Hill and TCU don’t have the weapons that other Big XII teams have. Patterson will come up with some adjustments to slow down Mayfield and the Sooners, but it won’t be enough. Look for Sooner TE Mark Andrews to have a huge game. Mayfield and the Sooner offense will put up 30 plus, which will be more than enough to beat TCU.
Oklahoma 37 TCU 23
Auburn vs Georgia
In their last meeting at Jordan-Hare, Auburn was able to stuff both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel and force Jake Frohm to beat the Tigers with his arm. The result, an Auburn blowout win. Kerryon Johnson was able to run wild on Georgia, it in this meeting he is banged up with a soar shoulder. How many carries can he handle? Jarrett Stidham and Ryan Davis and Darius Slayton are going to have to “shoulder” more of the burden in Atlanta. With Auburn being a little more one dimensional, look for UGA’s defense to force a couple of turnovers and shorten the field for Frohm and Co. problem is, they still won’t be able to run on Auburn’s defense. Look for Auburn to weather the storm early and pull away late in a great game.
Auburn 27 Georgia 20
Ohio State vs Wisconsin
The big question in this game is, what is the health of JT Barrett? The QB run game is a big part of the Buckeye offense, and if Barrett is hobbled it could be tough sledding against a very tough Badger defense. But how good is that Badger offense? Wisconsin has a very talented true freshman RB in Jonathon Taylor and a great offensive line. But since Quintez Cepheus went done, the Badgers offer no speed on the outside. That will be a huge problem against Ohio State. Look for the Buckeyes to load up against the run and force Alex Hornibrook to best them with his arm. Not going to happen. Ohio State ends up rolling Wisconsin.
Ohio State 34 Wisconsin 13
Miami vs Clemson
We all remember the last meeting between these two teams. Clemson beat us 58-0 and sent Al Golden packing. That turned out to be the day that the Canes were resurrected. In comes Mark Richt and led the Canes to 9 wins and a bowl victory last year and now has Miami winning the Coastal en route to a 10 plus win season. The Canes have been decimated on the offensive side of the ball by injuries, losing Walton, Richards and Herndon, arguably our 3 best offensive weapons. But Clemson is beat up on the defensive side of the ball as well, losing their starting LB Lamar and their Nickel DB Fields. Both teams feature ferocious front sevens. But give Miami the edge in the defensive backfield. Kelley Bryant and co will find rough sledding against a very talented Canes secondary led by Jaquan Johnson. Clemson does not threaten you as much with their vertical passing game, so look for Miami to play more nickel and line up Bandy on Renefrow. I don’t think the Canes offense has to score all that much to win this game, but they will have to score more than the 14 we mustered against Pitt. If Miami can manufacture 24 points, we win.
