Was francis not a great prospect lol?

I think jackson is just as great but i don’t put as much stock into act tests and shot put numbers for football prospects
 
Hope he doesn't get the Bain "short arms" moniker, because he has elite measureables across the board. On that whole list, the only player with shorter arms was Sewell and we've just seen how stupidly obsessed the NFL is with measurements over tape/performance.

Totally agree. I gotta see the kid play football against good, high-level edge rushers over the course of the season before I entertain that stuff. But if you were going to create an all-time great from scratch, this dude has just about every single ingredient you could hope to find.

And along those lines, as absolutely bizarre as this is to say for a kid at a position that almost always takes years of S&C work to get to the highest level, I think at the end of the season, there will be Jeremiah Smith type talk, in the sense that people will be asking if he was draft eligible after his freshman year, where would he be picked? His size/strength combo is that rare, that I genuinely think in January you’ll hear talking heads saying **** like “Would Jackson Cantwell be a first rounder were he eligible this draft?” like we did with JJ. Crazy to even say that out loud for a true freshman OT but I won’t be surprised at all.

CiCi was an amazing prospect there is not debating that. I am in no way attempting to take away from CiCi, that is the reason he was not mentioned in the OP.

This only has to do with Jackson and his greatness. Jackson Cantwell was the first ever Gatorade player of the year as an offensive lineman with rare measurable and Olympic DNA that combination has never been seen by any high school OT prospect.

Just because you don’t put much stock into his shot put numbers does not mean those numbers and attributes don’t translate directly to the football field. Football is a power sport and those shot put numbers shows Jackson’s power.

Now like everyone he is going to have to prove it on the field, yes that is true.
 
I played and coached DB so I'm hardly an OL expert but in the clips I've seen of him blocking some of our top guys I see a special and unique talent. Footwork, hand placement, bend, balance, all look like a guy who's been playing FBS ball for several years, not a high school kid. It wouldn't shock me if he's dominant right from the start. Rememebr, he'll be practicing every day against better DEs than he's likely to see in most games.

Nah.. I agree with the OP and OBM.

Francis was more finely tuned coming out of HS but there's never been another Cantwell

Nothing compares to his frame, athleticism, and bloodlines as a prospect. Not sure there's any position out there, not just OL, that has a kid that was 99th percentile height/weight, the best athlete, like top overall, number 1 without debate and like 1 cm from being the best ALL TIME, in another sport other than football, with 2 parents that won medals in the Olympics, that also made a 33 on his ACT in middle school.

There's been more polished players, sure. Even Congdon fits that in the same class on the same team. Maybe there's been some other football players out there drafted to the MLB and things like that from another sport perspective... it's usually QBs. There have obviously been other pro-athlete and Olympian's kids that play. But all in 1 person?

College basketball recruiting and evaluation's strongest data point on projecting success is when a guy fits the measurables ht/wt/testing and has a mom that was a college basketball player. They almost never miss. Same idea here with the mom being an Olympic medalist.

Football is absolutely a power sport, but i don’t think that also means his shot put numbers puts his power at a level that means he is the greatest oline prospect ever

And i think he will be great for us day1

I agree he is a rare prospect, I just don’t think that means he is the greatest ot prospect ever. I think you can have rare measurables & pedigree and still not be the greatest ot prospect ever

This doesn’t mean i think he will be a miss or anything close to it, i think he will be a superstar and one of our greats
