High school football is finally back, and we’re kicking off a new series at CanesInSight this season. Every Friday night, our staff members will be at the biggest games in South Florida, bringing you live updates, recruiting notes, photos, and content.
Our first stop couldn’t be much better.
On August 14 at 6:30 p.m., Miami Carol City heads to take on defending Class 6A state champion West Boca Raton in what has a chance to be one of the best opening-week games anywhere in Florida.
West Boca Raton is coming off one of the best seasons in program history after finishing 13-2 and capturing the FHSAA Class 6A State Championship. The Bulls were dominant throughout the postseason, capping off their title run with a 31-0 shutout over West Broward in the state championship game. They also claimed district and regional championships, establishing themselves as one of Florida’s best programs heading into the 2026 season.
At this point, West Boca has earned its spot among Florida’s top programs. The Bulls have been one of the state’s most consistent teams over the last several seasons, and last year’s Class 6A state championship only added to what they’ve been building.
Carol City knows exactly what they are facing and I don’t see them backing down from it either.
If you only look at last year’s 6-5 record, you’re going to have the wrong impression of this football team. This isn’t the same Miami Carol City roster.
The Chiefs had one of the biggest offseasons of any program in Florida, bringing in impact players from across South Florida. On paper, this roster has the talent to compete with just about anybody.
The biggest addition is Miami commitment Nick Lennear, who transferred in from Miami Northwestern. The 2027 five-star wide receiver has quickly become one of the most talked-about prospects in the country and gives Carol City another elite playmaker on the outside. At 6-foot-2 and around 190 pounds, Lennear has already established himself as one of the top receivers in his class, and all eyes will be on him in his Carol City debut against the defending state champions.
Carol City also added Za’Kari Johnson, a Florida State commit who transferred in from Cypress Bay after reclassifying into the 2027 class. The four-star athlete is listed at 6-foot-1, 196 pounds and is one of the top prospects in Florida. His commitment to the Seminoles was a major recruiting win, and he’ll be another player to keep an eye on when the Chiefs open the season against West Boca.
Then there’s Aden Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound standout and one of the top players in the 2028 class. He’s already making a name for himself across Florida, and it’s easy to see why so many people are high on his future. Just having Johnson on this roster boast the ceiling even higher for the Chiefs this roster is full of straight talent from every position on the field.
This game will tells us a lot about both teams before the season really gets going.
