Spent the last couple days visiting my nephew and his family in Suwannee County (about 30 miles west of the I-10/I-75 interchange in North Florida for those who might not know).

Might as well have been on the moon for the lack of UM sightings because there was absolutely nothing.

Not anyone around town (Live Oak) when we went out to eat, when we to stores, etc. Zilch.

Stopped by the big truck stop off the interstate and they had a large section set aside for all kinds of college apparel and merchandise.

There was a ton of FSU/UF crap of course and some FAMU stuff.

But surprisingly (to me) there was some UCF and USF clothing, but zero University of Miami things to buy.

I don't remember it ever being that barren for the Canes even when I was a kid in places like rural Escambia County. You could always find at least a UM cap or hoodie or whatever.

Have things changed in the sports marketing business or has UM dropped the ball in some way?

I'm asking because I have no idea — other than it's not how it used to be up here (North Florida)

I'm in Santa Rosa County and it's so rare here that if I see someone in UM gear I'll usually do a double take
Canes fans are everywhere! My brother seen one repping The U in Amsterdam. I live in a small Tennessee town and see the same 2 people driving with The U! I pass this one guy almost everyday. Kid on my sons T ball team this past spring, his mother and her family are Canes fans! And I've met a local high schooler in town who takes sports pictures at the little leagues and he's a huge Canes/Dolphins fan!

The only U grads I know are doctors, and of those every single one are anesthesiologists.

I live in Palm Beach county. Costco and Target have UF and FSU gear and. Nothing for Miami. I assume it has to do w being a private school, and marketing agreements.
🤷‍♂️

It’s probably because we’re with Adidas…

When I lived there it was rare to find miami-football gear. I'd only see hats at Lids

We went on vacation last month and went into a gas station for something and they had gators gear on a rack. My son took the opportunity to use one of my favorite lines and said, "Look, somebody vandalized these shirts." I said, "Yup, it's a **** shame." I don't think the guy browsing through them found it as funny as we did.

PGA Superstore in Orlando carries some Canes head covers and towels. Maybe a ****'s sporting goods in Daytona might have some canes golf related stuff ... but Canes shirts, hats etc., South Florida or the internet. Here in DeLand / Daytona Beach we see UF, FSU and UCF gear .. and Stetson being the local school, and then some Embry Riddle.

State schools typically dominate the apparel landscape within their state because even the people who didnt go there know people who went there, grew up with it, its all they know. So they have a natural tie in. Easy sell.

Miami is a small private school with alums spread all over. ****ing in the wind trying to sell apparel in just certain areas of Central/North Florida.

Embry-Riddle got more fans in Daytona than we do? The little flight school next to the airport?

Do they even got sports?

There's more random fans in Nashville than I think there should be but still not much of a presence

Wore a GREEN UM polo to the Rancid/Smashing Pumpkins/GREEN Day concert last night in Atlanta.

MULTIPLE people threw up The U. One guy said he was coming to Hogtown this weekend too. Very positive UM vibes in ATL.

How was concert? Headed to it in Pittsburgh Sunday at PNC Park.

It was a lot of fun.

Tickets said 6 pm. They had TWO bands go on before 6 pm. Rancid started just after 6 pm and the sun was still up (and HOT). Pumpkins went on around 7 and the sun was just dropping behind first base.

James Iha made TWO separate comments about "Hotlanta" and how hot it was. Second time, he realized he had already said something, and he just mumbled "that's all I've got"...

Green Day was fantastic, played a song or two and then went into full-album Dookie. Played another few songs and went into full-album American Idiot. Closed with Good Riddance (duh).

During Dookie, they had a Dookie blimp fly over the front sections, and then the blimp dropped small inflatable Dookie blimps on the crowd. Hilarious.
