I keep seeing things like his career record etc. But does no one believe the program can elevate him as it did with jj Dennis? I think detractors think his record should be better than what it is so he’ll fail here. I think here he’s in the best recruiting situation of his head coaching career.

I imagine the concern is that he had all the money in the world at Oregon and didn’t do better.
Why does money mean he’s supposed to get everyone and it’s easy to recruit there? **** I think manny recruited guys here that Mario would’ve loved and they probably never gave Oregon a thought

What I like about Mario is UM is his final destination AND he can recruit. If Butch had stayed we may have become what Bama is now. Now, I know Shannon and Manny would have stayed forever too, but they were clearly over their head in coaching ability and recruiting. If Mario gets the right coordinators and oversees this as a JJ/Bowden type, we might be byke.

Whoever comes has TVD for a year, and Garcia looks like he’ll have that “it” factor as well. Just look at Clemson to see what the right QB can do, and what happens when they’re gone. Money will not be an issue. They can hire elite staff now.

Mario has great qualities as a coach. And he also has bad qualities as a coach. Kirby smart is a lazy comparison and also inaccurate. Kirby comes with a scheme. Mario is more Mack brown or Bobby Bowden than he is Kirby. So the name of the game is recruit great talent. Run a clean program. Get great assistants. Mack is old as the hills but he did that in his earlier years. Bowden did that obviously. Can Mario replicate that?

The thing that attracts me to Mario is that he could be here for 15 years. Lane will be here max 4 years. It’s his way. And if he lands arch no chance he leaves. That’s his ticket right there

Kirby Smart's coaching philosophy is summed up below:

I mean, the next step for Mario is CFP...the real question is can Mario elevate Miami...then we can talk about the rest.

Its simple. He will need an excellent staff to reach full potential.

Dan Mullen OC
T Rob DC

Start with that
He needs more than TRob at DC

My hope is that if the AD news is legit. This AD, who was with the ultimate recruiter/CEO type head coach, can convince Mario to follow the same game plan and hire truly elite coordinators and step back as much as possible to focus on what he’s good at

He needs to do whatever Brian Kelly did after we waxed them in 2017 and grow from it. When we played ND there in a tight game, ND fans were certain they wanted him gone. Then in 2017, they were riding high and we crushed them.

Kelly appears to have made changes and grew to have ND consistently in the mix. Not sure how he’ll do at LSU as it seems like an odd pairing to me, but if Mario grows and adjusts Miami could be the place to do it.

Let him dominate recruiting (by Miami standards) and learn from whatever mistakes he made at Oregon. When was the last time we poached a conf championship coach from a P5 program? It’s a big time hire by any standard, if it happens…
Richt won it back in the day but yeah I get your point.

I think Richt and Mario are similar in some ways. They both needed to nail their hires. Richt was too arrogant and believed he could turn back the time and find success as a playcaller. Wrong.

Mario’s success will depend on his hires. And also his ability to get some of the similar “old school” tendencies Richt had out of his mindset. I’m still left scratching my head wondering why Ty Thompson never got into the game yesterday. I worry it’s because of Brown’s “leadership” or whatever.

Literally every single Oregon fan was blasting Mario for not playing Ty. It’s not the end of the world. But it is concerning.

Elite Elite Recruiter
Culture Overall
Better recruiting grounds

All Mario needs is the money for an elite staff around him. Hes shown at FIU hes capable of developing other coaches

He invested in top coordinators and stopped trying to be involved with calling the offense. I agree with those who say Mario’s coordinator hires will be huge.
