Forgot how he left UM - forgot the cloud at UNC .... for all the fans that want to bring him back, how do you get past
- 2008 8-5 and ACC Conf Record 4-4
- 2009 same records
- 2010 same records

And please dont tell me he is better than Al ----- I agree but i didnt know our choices were limited 2 coaches

Did I miss something and the ACC was far more dominant than I remember during this time frame?

I agree. We love Butch but he's not the future. In fact, Butch was interested in Miami last year but now he's in the booth getting paid for a much easier job. Most coaches tend to enjoy the booth once they get in there. Much less of a grind.

This is what Butch did at UNC...

30 players drafted into the NFL.
7 first-rounders.
16 in first 3 rounds.

This happened AT UNC. At a basketball school.

Ok but how did that translate on the field in college....

3-1 against Miami.
Beat multiple ranked teams, including VT & FSU... while having many of his future NFL players suspended.

In 2010, there was a lot of turmoil, as an investigation of members of the team were being investigated. Butch didn't comment as he though it would be a one-off incident. Players were suspended. As was written in the Charlotte Observer on July 10, 2010, the article titles "UNC Coach Built Reputation for Running Clean Programs"

Further, in 2010 even after some 13 players were suspended, and Butch was cleared by the NCAA, UNC had nine players drafted that year, tying USCw for having the most players drafted from a single school. There was lots of speculation how good they would have been had all these players played all their games.

Further, in 2010, they lost to LSU by six, beat Clemson, Florida State, Duke, and Tennessee. In spite of many starters not playing in all the games.

If you wish, I'll go into the other years, but I think this busts your suggestion that Butch wasn't improving the team. He was kicking some ***.

If you haven't noticed, coaches don't stay very long at Miami. Not the good ones, not the bad ones.

Butch is the same age as Saban, and I'm pretty sure Saban is considered the foreseeable future for Alabama, and I don't know how old you are, but 62 is the new 50, and does not have the same expectations as a 62 year old in the thirteenth century. BC.

He's got it. And he'll come. After all, he has some unfinished business here at the U.

For the OP

Is there anything Golden has done that Butch hasn't done?

So he basically did the same as miami in that period, 24-15 vs 23-16, with way more talent?
I'm a big Butch fan, but just saying...

You must be a new canes fan....lemme bring you up to speed. Butch lost like 30 scholarships for some pell grant fraud that he had no part in. Al Folden, not so much.

Yet, no other program will touch this guy.

Think about that ...

You picked the stats, the guy is available, will come relatively inexpensive ... But NOBODY wants him.

So, not only is UM incapable of valuing the stats you cite ... No other team with an opening since 2010 has thought they were valuable, either.

So, what do they know that the Butch fans don't?

Or, are Butch fans the only smart guys?

Wtf? I'm comparing his W-L record at UNC from 08-10 with Miami's during the same period, when we had nowhere near that level of draftable talent, playing nearly the same schedule. The pell grant issue is irrelevant.

UNCs violations would have been a much more relevant reference. You must be a new reader.

I think he's referring to Miami's record from 2008-2010

Close thread. Anyone that brings up Botch will be directed back to this post.

Butch assembled the greatest team in college football history. He did it while on major sanctions due to the Pell Grant scandal. He's at least won a Sugar Bowl during his time as a HC (2000 against Florida). Can't say I'll ever see Al Golden win the Sugar Bowl while he's a head coach, or any BCS bowl for that matter. I don't think Butch is our future either, but I'm not like the Golden slurpers who will try to disrespect Butch in some capacity by thinking both are on the same playing field as coach - because they certainly aren't.

UNC was set to win big that year had their players not gotten suspended. And yeah his record wasn't stellar for the first 2 years, but he was building a dominant program where one never existed. His record in year 3 was set to be much better if the suspensions didn't happen. The guy can flat out recruit, develop talent and knows how to run a dominant program from top to bottom. He would be a massive upgrade over golden.
