Based on Virginia’s record of this year it is understandable that some are not taking them very seriously, but not taking their head coach, Bronco Mendenhall, seriously would be a big mistake.

For those not familiar with his success at BYU, I encourage you to familiarize yourself with his record.

One thing you can count on, Mendenhall will put an inspired and prepared Virginia team on the Hard Rock field come 12 noon this Saturday.

If you are also not familiar with the definition of a ‘trap game’ look no further than the Virginia tilt. And, the following week’s Pittsburgh match.

If our Canes and Fan Base does not show up ready to rumble over the next several weeks…

I'm more worried about Virginia and Pittsburgh tgan I am about Clemson.

Mendenhall is no joke and we could easily lose if we half *** it.

I watched a little of their game against Louisville last night and in the second quarter they had two freshmen playing the tackle spots. Couple that with an immobile QB and you have a recipe for disaster against our defense.

I believe they are getting back one of their offensive tackles who has been injured.
 
Completely agree these are trap games. What especially puts us at risk is our persistent difficulty in running the ball when we need to - i.e. short yardage, redzone, etc.... Richt himself said he's still questions whether we can lineup and impose our will against an opponent.

Hopefully, all of the praise since the ND blowout does not cause the team to assume we will walk over UVA.
 
Bronco Mendenhall is known for fielding dirty teams that “play to the whistle“. We know what that means. And it’s something that we can’t get away with but the refs will probably let them get away with. We have to keep our heads on straight and not play the retaliation game if that happens.

His teams at BYU were known to be notoriously dirty.

No team other than the last two weeks has lined up against us and thought of it as a Superbowl

Wrong.

Teams always give us extra, even teams we should easily best. Have you been paying attention to the games that we been playing last few years?. Did you watch the UNC game?
 
UVa isn't a total pushover, but apparently tickets for the game have been selling like crazy. Couple that with senior day, and I'm not super worried. It's the Friday noon game after Thanksgiving @ Pitt in late November that concerns me more. Hopefully it is so obviously a trap game that the players own it. Maybe pregame warm up with no shirts like Denzel Perryman had them doing a few years back.

You clearly don't attend games. Teams definitely treat us like their superbowl, even when we are down.

Most players know that the scouts are going to come out when they play against Miami because of our reputation.

Players and coaches alike love to beat Miami. No matter how bad we are. We will always be a hot ticket.
 
Virginia is not to be taken lightly as Bronco is a solid coach. That being said, if this 3-4 years ago, this would probably be a loss as was the case so many times with the putrid game planning we had.

Was not aware that Mendenhall coached dirty, but knew the former BYU coach, LaVell Edwards, was the dirtiest coach of the dirtiest teams to have ever played college football.

Many years ago BYU came into the Orange Bowl to play the Canes (I believe it was 1988). After the 1st quarter of watching BYU’s late hits, going after the knees of our players on each down, spearing and every other imaginable dirty act by all 11 of their defenders I stood-up and went into a 5 minute screaming Andrew Dice Clay type of routine, only dirtier, describing how I felt about LaVell Edwards and the trained scumbags that were his players. When I felt my work was done, and to a surprisingly loud ovation, I turned around to sit down...and one row behind me sat Edward’s wife, who as they say, if looks could kill I would have been doing a Jimmy Hoffa impression.

Yet, I must admit that after all these many years later, and hoping I have matured, I regret that I didn’t…do an even longer routine when describing those dirty SOB’s!!
