Miami has landed a commitment from the second-highest ranked recruit in its history. Five-star power forward Caleb Gaskins announced his decision to join Jai Lucas and the UM basketball team on Thursday.

Gaskins chose the Hurricanes over a final three of Texas A&M and Florida, he also chose the Hurricanes over offers from 15 other schools.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Christopher Columbus High in Miami is ranked No. 12 nationally in the Class of 2026, No. 3 among power forwards, and the No. 1 player in Florida, according to 247Sports.

Gaskins starts off the Hurricanes in the 2026 class now ranked as the No. 42 team in the nation for the 2026 class.

Miami assistant coach Andrew Moran has played a key role in Gaskins’ recruitment. Moran coached him last season at Christopher Columbus, where the team captured a national title, and also worked with him on the Nightrydas Elite AAU squad, which went on to win the Peach Jam this past summer.

On the EYBL Circuit a couple of months ago, Gaskins was nothing short of dominant, averaging 18.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Welcome to the family.
LETS F#$#$#G GO!!!!

how are folks feeling about the team this year? i know it's hard to know what to expect from a first-time head coach, but these days i'm terrible at keeping up with the roster churn of CBB. anyone think we have a shot at the dance or is it more of a rebuild?

Getting the 16th overall, a local 5 star. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE. Also, shout out to @Trinton Breeze calling his shot months ago.
I don’t think people apprecaite how impactful this can be. For as long as I can remember, local basketball stars have left Miami for seemingly every other school in the country (not unlike what happens in Atlanta). To keep this young man home is a HUGE step for the program.

Not on CIS. 17 post on a local 5 star committing but we'll have 200 pages on a kid who never sees the field at Ohio State. Lol

Welcome kid. Make us a basketball school!
I think football will always get way more attention on this site regardless. Speaking for myself, I really don't get excited for bball until the actual season starts.
