I understand they're about feeling out executives and coaches.
I understand they can make contacts with coaches allowing UM to keep an arm's length distance.
I understand the search committee can find out what's available, and for how much.
The committee can weigh the possibilities, and make recommendations for the next Head Coach.
But Korn Ferry's contact ability is not just limited to potential Head Coaches.
I heard an interesting scenario - what if the Head Coach is pretty much decided - and they want Korn Ferry to initiate contacts on behalf of the coming Head Coach - with top Coordinators and Position Coaches.
The continued leaks and pieces of the puzzles all indicate that Head Coach candidates are likely being measured against a proven Head Coach, and further indications are that the men who write the big checks have indicated their choice, as well as other indications that the President and AD also lean that direction in their preferences.
Of course, all candidates will be weighed and measured, as UM cannot risk another bad hire. But at least they have a standard to measure against.
