in 1998 coming off a 9-3 season after a win vs #3 UCLA and winning our bowl game Butch knew that his staff could not reach the top and went and hired Greg Schiano after firing Miller

thats the kind of CEO moves that need to be made, will CMR make them?

this is not a butch vs CMR thread this is a thread asking the question can CMR make the CEO moves needed to win?
one of his issues in the past at UGA was that he would not

Doesnt CMR have a history of not firing coaches even to point of having AD to step in? I could of sworn that was always something I heard, so dont expect that to happen here, and we dont really have a strong AD, so no hands will be forced.

Although I get your point about changing coaches, Schiano was average as a DC.

if CMR would only hire an average OC i think many of us here would be much more at ease about our current situation

Look, what Butch did at Miami from 1995-2000 was remarkable. He fired Bill Miller. Who else did Butch fire during his tenure? BTW, Nick Saban immediately hired Miller at Michigan State so how bad could he really be? Let's face it. Miami was still depleted because of probation. Schiano did a nice job but Miami got to deal with a more experience defense. Rumph and Reed were experienced sophomores. Damione Lewis was now an upperclassmen. Nate Webster and Dan Morgan juniors. I'm having trouble forgiving Chimpy for running Cover 2 man with a minute and a half to go against Penn State.

Let's not overcomplicate this. We need a change at quarterback. Give one of the young guns a shot. Schedule sets up perfectly to do it. Try Scaife at tackle and move Donaldson back to guard. Pull significant PT from the usual suspects who rotate on defense that are consistently killing us. Find a punter who wouldn't shank the ball at least once or twice a game. This isn't that hard to fix.

From this point on CMR has to tell his staff "everyone is on notice", this team has to perform better SO each position is being graded and at the end of the season we will see how each position was graded thru out the season and changes will be made IF needed!! BUT he has to let his staff know that they arw being evaluated from here til the end of the season.. Make them understand that performance starts with them, and it's their job to put the right player's on the field!!

the offensive writing was on the wall last year....... no changes were made we brought in a scrub GA lb coach to coach ONE lb position

This! If anything, this is more telling. We started struggling on def towards the end of the season and he hires a grad LB coach who coach one LB position. No bueno.

My sense is if he goes in a different direction at quarterback he will look like a genius or at least not incompetent at times. Ken Dorsey made Larry Coker look like a genius. Kenny Kelly on the otherhand made Larry lose hair and with his follicle depravation that wasn't good. How did Chud look with Ken? Pretty smart. How did Chud look with Brock? Play a freshman at quarterback.

sometimes you fire someone just to get new ideas
thats a mark of a good CEO
the mark of a bad CEO is hiring a bunch of yes men
if you look at CMR's OC and QB coach they are both yes men who are just walking mouth pieces for CMR

Cover 2 is not a bad defense against the deep ball. Safeties drops deep and are supposed to keep a lid on the deep ball. It was Ed Reed who murked that play up by not helping Rumph on that Fields guy running a fly. It was also a perfect throw by their QB. Crazy play that made me scream and throw things, but I don't blame the defensive call there.

Now the 50 yard run LSU had on Sunday I blame Diaz 100%. Dude had an obvious outside blitz which left the middle open, which the QB audibled into a run and we of course did not adjust. Not to mention we had srubs on the field instead of starters.

How then became HC and then HC at NFL. Any of current staff riding in that lane?

I agree Richt's defensive hires, except Coach Kul, have been very suspect. Completely agree. Davis' last staff in 2000 at The U makes Richt's defensive team look like high school coaches. Which ironically some were as recently as a few years ago.

Schiano IMO is a better DC than Diaz. Everyone's disappointment after Sunday's loss creates a revisionist history that Schiano was some guru. His defenses at Miami in 1999-2000 were great against most crap teams but there were games where his defenses faltered. 2000 vs Louisiana Tech - gave up 31 points. This is game that cost the Canes a shot at Oklahoma. The defense blew a 17-0 lead on FSU, only to be rescued by Ken Dorsey. And still gave up enough yardage for a potential game-tying 50 FG. Fortunately FSUs kicker was as talented as Miami's punter.

Tampa Bay (Bucs fan here) was stupid to hire Schiano. Bad move andproven quickly. This only means Schiano saw the Glazer family as an easy mark.
