Borregales

Jose scored a total of 378 points during his career (Borregales played 4 years, McPherson played 3 years), 70 of 88 field goals and 168 of 171 PATs. Made 2 FGs over 50 in 2020 with a long of 57. Two of his FG misses were this year (both in the 40-49 range).

All of Jose's misses (career):

2 - 20-29 (McPherson - 1)
7 - 30-39 (McPherson - 1)
7 - 40-49 (McPherson - 4, half this year)
2 - 50+ (McPherson - 3, all this year)

So it is arguable that Borregales IMPROVED significantly once he got to Miami in 2020, with better personnel/coaching, while McPherson had a drop-off in 2020. Which, of course, is why Borregales won the Groza in 2020 and McPherson did not.

I'm not sure why Borregales is going to a team that has a good veteran with a sizable contract. It is easy to make a good camp impression from any one of 32 teams, but if you do so with a team that has a more immediate need, they are more likely to keep you.

Only thing that MIGHT happen with the Bucs is that Borregales is so good that they cut the incumbent for salary cap reasons, as the Bucs have struggled (financially) to get the band back together this year. Maybe a cheap kicker helps them bring back Brown or McCoy, though Gio Bernard probably means McCoy is gone. Bucs only drafted one WR in the 4th round.

Gonna just go ahead and say it... McPherson is a stereotypical NFL Kicker. Jose is not. I hate it, too.
Evan’s body of work in 3 years is pretty darn good. His biggest miss will haunt him for years... LSU in the swamp with crazy weather/fog and they lose to an awful LSU squad.
He was not great this season. Jose was. Jose won the award and deserved it!!!
Heard Jose say in an interview that scouts were concerned with low kick offs. His body of work showed low hang times. One of his misses this season was a block, not a miss. Off the edge, we just got beat on the one. It happens. Jose has a far better unit than McPherson did. Jose had one snapper for most of his career at that other school and a very solid snapper his year with Clay James. Lou Hedley’s holds were beautiful, too!!! Just watch that Louisville 57 yd one but watch the snap and hold. McPherson had 3 different snappers and holders. His unit was average and he missed more this year in part bc of it. These things matter. Holds matter. Timing matters. Trust matters. We had it this year. Andy will benefit from it, too.

Jose will find his way and i agree with many of you... it will likely not be in Tampa but what he does in Tampa will lead him to a better situation.
Jose has been an underdog before so he knows how to handle it.

Reminder: Hartley wanted McPherson as our 2018 kicker. He offered and pushed hard. McPherson committed to Miss State and followed Mullens to UF. Had McPherson come to Miami, we would have never experienced 2020 with Jose Borregales.

One more thing, love seeing this whole board pulling for a kicker! It has been a rough few years in the kicking & punting dept. This board rarely agrees on anything but everyone is behind the Borregales brothers and Hedley.

LMAO at anyone who things he’s getting cut. He’ll start the season as the backup and have every opportunity to win the job.

Not one NFL team has 2 kickers on their 55 man roster. He may be on the practice squad but he wouldnt be able to play in games.

Andres will be better than both. Can't wait to watch.

He will take his job soon enough. He wouldn’t have gone there as a UFA, unless he was told that “they wouldn’t be looking for another kicker if they trusted the one they have”. That’s how this works.
Succop
2019 1for6
2020 missed three, but his long was 50.
Was one for two from 50. He hit “50” on the nose. They obviously know his leg isn’t elite. He’s not bad. Borggelas hit more from further here last season.

Succop is in year like 13, too!
Getting old and expensive to keep.
Jose is cheap and good.
Love to see him stick in Tampa.
Dont think he will but honestly hope i am wrong!
