Blake baker presser

What surprises me is hearing Manny & Baker talk about how they value analytics that put a premium on TFLs & sacks, yet they keep scheming up 3-man rushes, spying Garvin or putting him in coverage, and sending delayed safety blitzes from poor leverage positions.

Agree. I was jumping out of my seat for Manny to call a timeout in the UNC game when UNC motioned the RB out of the backfield to the farrrr left passed the WR and Garvin ran out there with him.

To be fair, the defense is not the problem. The offense is. If anyone should be self-flagellating, it should be ****. Unfortunately, he's the one who found Richt's "Book of Obstinate Post-Game Pressers" in the team library.

The hope is, that the offense is complicated and takes time for the team to absorb and begin to perform at a higher and higher level over time. Unfortunately, even that best-case scenario still means that he's a rigid coach that puts his ego above the team and who is unwilling or incapable of tailoring the offense to suit the personnel available to him.

I hope it gets better, but I am already disappointed, given what we were sold.

I don’t buy that at all. Sure they haven’t been awful, but they haven’t been that great either. It’s not the same defense. If it was the same scheme from the last 3 years,’we beat Carolina. Howell doesn’t have that kind of game and we sure don’t give up 4 and 17.

This sums up all of my concerns about this defense

I was kind of surprised yet refreshed he said he has mad bad play calls and needs to fix it. I think he’s a little to green to be our DC but compared to richt on offense and golden/coach D. His humility was breath of fresh air

I would have preferred Enos made that comment than Baker.

Once Manny got rid of his own late blitzes, his D took off. What surprises me is how much this D looks like the 2016 Manny version.
THis D reminds me of 2017 where our pass D was trash. The only reason we beat CMU was because of so many drops and their ****** QB missing wide open receivers down the field.

It’s going to get super ugly when we face any decent QBs.

It’s great to hear Baker taking blame, but I don’t much give a **** about that stuff. I want coaches that do a good job not ones who have to parse blame for regularly failing.

Good he's at least willing to admit shortcomings but I wanna see him actually implement improvements on the field. Even with 4th & 17 I feel better about the D than the offense right now until the O proves otherwise.

Very possible, but we might only face 2 left at this point: Hornibrook and Harris. Maybe Perkins but the guy is a pretty mediocre passer.

Actually manny said in an interview the coaches have to take blame too.

If this is true then he’s seeing the same issues we are seeing. Question becomes, does he have the cojones to do what is necessary if these issues continue.

i guess if you think about it, baker learned under manny previously right? Might be going through his own transformation/updating his tendencies to better reflect manny’s play calling in 17/18

I'm not overly concerned, so far. Much more worried about the O at this point.

The defensive plan against UF was spot on. They didn’t let Franks run wild which is where he would have hurt us the most. That one long pass he had was a blown coverage. You could tell that Franks was uncomfortable the entire first half. There were lots of unknowns going into the UNC game and it hurt us. We made good adjustments but just **** the bed late.
The defensive coaches are the least of our worries.
