▪ Baker, incidentally, said of Quarterman and Pinckney: “Those two dudes have been rock stars – they’re everything you want in linebackers and from a leadership standpoint. I’m excited to watch Zach McCloud as well. Didn’t have a chance to watch him do much football activity [because of a wrist injury]. He’s a kid you want your daughter to marry. Stand-up guy.”

What stood out to Baker about his defense this spring?

“Our overall speed on defense is phenomenal,” he said. “And the way that they worked. They have a blue collar attitude, want to get better every day. As a coach, it’s very refreshing. I want it to be a player run defense and we’re headed in the right direction.”

Baker, by the way, said: “I wouldn’t be shocked to see dramatic changes in some of the bodies [of Canes players in the next few months]. Once coach [David] Feeley and their staff gets their hands on them a little bit longer.”

Pinckney and Quarterman returning for their senior seasons was the biggest off-season move for Miami on the Diaz era. Bigger than any recruit, bigger than anything that came out of the Transfer Portal and as big as the coaching change.

I still shudder to think where this program is at if Mark Richt didn't have the class to step down and leave that buyout on the table. The fact he put his ego in his back pocket and did what was best for the program—incredible. Most guys would've taken a check for another year, made minimal changes and tried to prove they could do it their way.

The point in all that; if Richt didn't step down and Diaz didn't return—neither Pinckney or Quarterman are back for 2019 and this upcoming season would've been a huge disaster.

Very well said. Absolutely cat-o-strophic if Shaq and Pinckney had left.

Feeley has made noticeable impacts on several players.

Hearing Fat **** not showing up to even open up the gym on time WHILE LIVING IN MIRAMAR is really all you need to know.
Fat**** was acting like his position was part time, with full time pay.....brought lunch in his bag....10 Big Macs, and 2 floats, with 6 Large fries to fill it all out.
Looked it too.

You're the second person I've heard/read say this and it needs to be brought up more. Felder owes us a refund.

Richt did the honorable thing, but there was zero likelihood that they would allow him to retain his offensive staff. They were forcing him to fire most of them and definitively his son.
