Bill OBrien

A winning record in the NFL and taking over PSU on sanctions?

Some of yalls expectations are never gonna be met.
1. Golden took over during sanctions. So did Butch. One of them proved he was a good coach, the other did not. OBrien (in my opinion is in the Golden group instead of the Butch group.

2. Tell me exactly why Bill O'Brien should be the head coach at Miami? He had a top QB (arguably top 2 in the NFL) and went 52-48 and 2-4 in the playoffs. He was a horrible head of operations guy and in college football, the head coach is the President of Football operations.

3. O'Brien took over a Penn st. team that had future sanctions, but the team he inherited was a top 25 team, 9-3 in the regular season (losses to #3 Alabama, #19 Nebraska, and #15 Wisconsin), and then lost the Cotton Bowl to #20 Houston. O'Brien didn't take over a BAD team. He inherited a team that finished 19th and 13th in recruiting before he got there. That's a lot of talent. And he signed a 5* QB that was considered one of the best players in HS. So, yeah, I'll pass on him.

LSU will be hard after Billy Napier

He's been at Alabama and Clemson

He's cutting his Louisiana teeth now at his current job

Shocked Joe Brady isn't 1 on the lsu board

Word has been that he doesn't like college football. He's just a football nerd and all the nonsense that comes with coaching in college football isn't for him. Stories on LSU boards were that he hated even getting recognized in a restaurant by a fan when he was out with his family and whatnot.

I think there's a big difference between "the shadow" during Al's tenure, the pell grant scandal/sanctions under Butch, and rampant molestation cover ups at PSU. I still don't know how they made it through all that. We would've gotten the death penalty 5 times for that ****.

Bill O'Brien lost 9 games in 2 season with sanctions. Wasn't 96 our first full season with sanctions? We lost 9 games between 96-97. So they both lost 9 games their 1st 2 seasons with sanctions. Obviously the difference is what Butch built after that.

I'm not a huge O'Brien fan, but what he did @ PSU during that time was impressive.

O'Brien is a great gameday coach and offensive coordinator. He's the only coach to make Christian Hackenberg look good and had a Penn State team overachieve through sanctions. He schemes incredibly well and utilizes TEs better than most. He's also a hardass some of these kids probably need based on reports of skipping practice and all the social media BS.

That said, he's not a good recruiter - by all accounts, he hated it at Penn State. If he can't be a closer, that's probably not going to work in So Fla where perception is everyone from players to coaches get uber sensitive if college staffs don't bend over backwards with attention. I can't see him being a guy who grinds on the trail and puts in time. He's going to want back in the NFL sooner than later.

It was ok but his role with the Texans ruins any good faith that he had with his work at Penn St. if you don’t win a super bowl with a QB like Mahomes, Watson, Rodgers, in the NFL, you failed especially when you are the HC, OC, and GM.
