Biggest question on the team: Linebackers

I actually have a different opinion here. If our starters stay healthy that's fine and all but our back ups are why the room has such upside. With an offense like we have this season that will allow us to try **** out on defense it'll be criminal if we don't put genuine energy into developing the youngens.

Team may very well be built to win now. But the way we recruit out of high school you gotta be sure to mesh the two. Bring the future into the present. Which Mario and heatherman so far have been good about. EXCEPT AT LB...

What is the biggest concern you have about this year's team?

Suspect working the young LBs in is the plan. Two older LBs with history of injuries are gonna need to be spelled or will struggle to finish season
 
In Coach Hetherman’s defense, who is playing what position? I’ve seen depth charts with Toure and Smith in different positions (Mike and Will). What are the general responsibilities for each position? I imagine they are somewhat interchangeable, given they are only 2 of them. But if there are specific traits you are looking for in one of those positions?

what do you consider "Elite" or better question, how many "Elite" LBs are there in college?

Were asking for a lot of untested dudes to step up together. Not sure if it's a concern as much as it's just the situation we're in. But again, with the schedule we have, it's so weak that it gives us plenty of time to work through any kinks against live action. We gotta refund everything by the time we get to notre lame. That's our first test. Beyond that we need to be on point and simply didn't beat ourselves against Clemson and Pitt. Personally I don't think Clemson even can be as bad as they've been again this year. But I don't think that because of anything in particular that I know about this team I just think Clemson can't stay so bad every year and half their problem was that quarterback was atrocious.

Yes.

DT>2025- likely one of the most underrated positions to determine team success.
DE<2025- while we will miss the combo, I do think this group can come close to matching the stats.
OL<2025- experience matters. We are looking at 1 TF, 2 So, 3 Sr. 2025: 2 Sr, 4 Jr.
QB>2025
WR>2025
RB>2025
DB>2025
LB=2025- Sucks that we lost Wes and Popo but I think we do just fine.
Punter>=2025
Kicker??2025
Returner>=2025
 
Like I mentioned in post, I'm no expert on grading LBers. How did y'all think our backers played yesterday (I noticed problems in their coverage)? Especially curious on Wiley and Pruitt. Need those 2 to improve rapidly.
 
Lbers were exposed by 2 mechanisms:

1. Quick passes by the offense to neutralize the pass rush.
2. The above working and the front 4 not getting much of a pass rush. This made the LBs look out of place because the plays were quick.

One thing to note...Stanford OL was down 3 starters, and we struggled to create pressure. We can't help by sending lbers because we already can't cover the middle of the field.

Its game one and working out the kinks, but one would've expected more aginst this Stanford team.
