After watching the game yesterday, I was irate like most of you. Rosier, Feagles, and Knowles have no business playing Division 1 football. Richt has no business calling plays in Division 1 football. Our o-line is horrible at reading blitzes, after a whole summer to work on that, and nobody on the team besides Willis, Dallas, Thomas, and Hightower looked like they wanted to play.
But at the end of the day, after I woke up, I took a deep breath and said we still have a chance to change everything and go to the ACC Championship to take on Clemson. But then I saw these three videos, and realized that there are problems much bigger than the ones above and can't be easily fixed.
First, Johnson saying that after the touchdown run that made it 10-3 we were deflated on the sideline. 10-3 that was the score?? Are you kidding me? Deflated and he said the captains didn't do what they were suppose to to remind everyone there is still a lot of game left to be played and allowed that deflated attitude until the second half. We are upset and pouting we let a team score and are losing at the very beginning of the game?
If I thought that first video was bad, it wasn't till this video were it really hit me how bad the mentality of this team is. First things first, I do NOT expect them to call out Rosier or Feagles or even the O-line etc. They are their teammates so no need to call them out to the media, that would be bad. But Gauthier and Rosier were both asked how they thought they played today, their answers are extremely worrisome. Gauthier said the line played great for the most part. WHAT?????? 90% of the time there was an unblocked defender. If you get your tail beat so badly, I expect you to go to the mic and say it was unacceptable and it will not happen again. We all played TERRIBLE, and we will fix it. That is the sort of mentality you should have. Not like Rosier, well we didn't play too bad, and then continued talking about how Aranda brought new blitzes at the end that caught them by surprise and that made them lose. Are you serious? At least say you sucked, were inaccurate and couldn't read their defense and again you will never let that happen again. At least then, I can have a glimmer of hope for you, that you have at least the mentally to be a Division 1 quarterback.
Lastly, the cherry on top, the Richt presser. Like always, he said everything was fine we just made a few mistakes here and there. Important: ONE OF THE WORST THINGS TO HAPPEN TO US LAST NIGHT WAS MAKING IT CLOSE AT THE END. I said it in the gameday thread that Rosier scoring those 2 touchdowns would allow Richt to say Rosier did some things right and had some nice throws. That at the end it was a ball game and showed a lot of heart (failing to mention it was the back-ups in prevent defense). Richt does not seem to want to change anything. He specifically said that those hoping for drastic changes are going to be disappointed and nothing will change, they will continue with their gameplan.
I was hoping, he was going to say that we were going to have all the QBs taking reps with the 1s and the job is wide open again and that the play calling was going to change. I want him to say that we played TERRIBLE and he takes ownership for that, and that it will not happen again. Instead, we had some self-inflicted mistakes and LSU played great. LSU is not Clemson, they are not even close, we didn't lose to a top 5 team.
With this attitude nothing will change and mediocrity is were some of the "leaders" and coaches are comfortable staying. I don't see that heart of a champion and anger. They never play bad they just made some mistakes. Everything is going to stay the same like Richt said it was just 1 or 2 things that made us lose and we don't have to change much at all. I'm so hurt after watching this I don't even know what else to say. This needs to change before everything else that is wrong or we will continue to lose 3-6 games a year.
My only hope is that this is just Richt trying to be nice to his players in front of the media. And we really will be taking advantage of our next games and putting new quarterbacks, punters, and freshman in to see if they can play. But I just don't see it right now.
