I'm impressed by the number of different opinions thats a sign that things are going good...But i have to give my boy some props..i will never proclaim his is the best not even on his HS team last year.. it takes all the cogs to make a rolex a rolex...but he being a true freshmen ... not only calling plays but making audibles..impresses me... still there are lots of mistakes that I would like to see refined.. all the backers had some bad reeds...the outside backers late on some pitches...but still more positive than negative... the backers are doing as well as they are because of the guys up front ...so my opinion i have to go with Willis Norton and Mac in no particular order

As a former MLB I agree with you about Shaq leading the defence and being able to make the calls and checks is impressive for a freshman.

There will be growing pains, but when you watch the film you see some mistakes, but also some perfect reads. I like that they are playing aggressive, even if they make mistakes they are playing fast (Shaq & Pinckney). Zach McCloud has the physical gifts, but he's playing a step slow and looks to be thinking too much. Would have benefitted from Grace being here, because I think he'll be a beast next year.

Next year when we play GT they are going to smash them....guaranteed.

The defence from last year to now is night and day. Can't wait to watch them meet Dalvin in the backfield and bring pressure to the QB instead of giving him a clean pocket and all day to throw like last year.

Pinckney is playing well for a true freshman but he hasn't been amazing. Not sure why people are including him

In no particular order

Chad Thomas
Corn elder
Mark Walton
Brad kaaya
McDermott

You have to have #56 up there for sure. Dude has been sensational! Pinckney is a playmaker in every sense of the term. Jaquan Johnson is a huge talent. Give JJ one more offseason getting stronger and he will be a force at FS. The best part of it is we haven't even seen JJ's instincts and ability as a FS in the passing game. We may get a glimpse of that this weekend but for sure in 2017 when he succeeds RJ at FS.

The cool thing about this thread topic is it makes you analyze our roster to figure out who is top 5 but in doing so the thing that really stands out is just how many great young players we have on this team who are starting to break out now or who will break out shortly. I'm going to limit my post to defense but I want everyone to go through these names and think of how each of them have the ability to make big impactful plays during the course of a game. I purposely left off Corn Elder as he is a senior and my purpose is to emphasize how bright the future is.

Chad Thomas
Demetrius Jackson
R.J. Macintosh
Trent Harris
Kendrick Norton
Gerald Willis
Joseph Jackson
Mike Pinckney
Shaquille Quarterman
Jaquan Johnson
Zack McCloud

It comes as no surprise that the above list is lacking Cornerbacks and Safeties. That's not to say we are completely devoid of talent in the secondary as we certainly have young players with great potential. We just have not been able to qualify their level of play because we have 4 senior starters and the fact that we have not played a team that can effectively throw the football. I like what I have seen of Sheldrick Redwine thus far but due to the nature of our first 4 opponents, we do not yet know if he belongs or could belong on the list above. The same goes for Ryan Mayes who has supposedly had the light click on, Malek Young, Romeo Finley, Robert Knowles, Cedrick Wright and Michael Jackson. We will learn much more about the young talent in this secondary soon enough. As we are all aware, the next 2 recruiting classes will have a major impact on this unit as those classes will provide a massive infusion of talent.

Color me a biased unobjective homer but if you put the above list of playmakers together with the type of elite talent we are very likely to bring in and put them in the scheme we have seen the first few weeks, you have the makings of a potentially dominating defense. A vintage UM type defense. If you would have told me a year ago that this program would be in the position it is in now, I would have laughed in your face and thought you delusional. Yet here we are and it's only going to get better. Sorry for the long rant!

As MLB and director of the D he might be the most important part of the D rt now and guy we can least afford to get hurt. This is a fan ranking, so it's more just who has the most highlight reel plays. A pick 6 or laying out of a Seminole this weekend and he'll be number one on these lists next week.

I'd go
1) Corn
2) Chad Thomas
3) Kaaya
4) JJ
5) Kendrick Norton
6) Stacy Coley

Favorite player might be Joe Jackson, another game like last weekend and he might go top 5.

This is where I'm thinking but for me, after the top 3, it becomes a bit murky.

Corn, Chad and Kayaa are the clear top 3, imo. After that, there are a ton of guys that belong...

JJ
Norton
Mcintosh
Shaq
Pink
Richards
Coley
McDermott
Njoku
Yearby/Walton
Redwine

Having so many quality guys vying for those spots is a great position to be in. Playmakers abound...

I agree with this quite a bit I don't think that a lot of people see when Shaq calls audibles as much as he does and as a true freshman running a Dfence like that is incredibly impressive
