TLDR --- Greg Rousseau-like frame without the long arms. Heavy handed punches & some bend. 2 years of eligibility. Position versatility.

I really like Atkinson but he's an edge player and we are good there. We need to spend money on other positions first.
I mean.....we're alright. We basically have two proven commodities in Bain and Mesidor.

Behind them, there's not much else. Just young unproven talent and a ton of low snap counts with Malik Bryant being the 3rd most experienced player (scary).

The only way you even consider bringing in another DE is if one hits the portal. How about for once we actually develop guys in a position group instead of constantly recruiting over them after 1 year. We have 3 true sophomores (Lightfoot, McConaghy, Blount) and a true freshman (Lowe) in that room that were all highly regarded.

We are stacked at de we’re good . Unproven 3 5 star de and lot of 4 star ones isn’t a bad place to be in

Assuming health isn't an issue (which it has been hence why I was stating we're thinner than we think):
  • At worst, Bain and Mesidor have proven they can produce at a nominal level. Will still see some inconsistencies and frustrating plays but overall they've proven they can be solid contributors (Mesidor had 8 sack season, Bain was TF All-American).
    • Bain obviously being a guy that probably has the larger impact even if he has a down year.
  • At best, Bain has proven he can be a 1st team All-ACC guy and Mesidor is another All-ACC caliber player.
    • With Bain being a potential AA hype kind of guy if it all clicks.

For sure. I actually like the room, the talent, and the size/athleticism we have there.

But it is unproven. Bain dealt with injuries last year. Mesidor has injury history. If one of those guys go down, you're now leaning an guys that have less than 100 snaps of experience to potentially lead you to a playoff push at arguably the 2nd most important position group.

Staff wanted him bad out of hs. Probably too expensive now and his role would be unclear. After 7.5 sacks he’s going somewhere to be the man

I understand what you mean but to call the trio of Hayden Lowe, Armando Blount and Marquis Lightfoot "Not much else" is just a tad disingenuous imo. Besides that there are other more pressing needs like DT, LB and Safety not to mention WR, RB and maybe QB. I would love to have him but the money isn't unlimited.

Yes, I'm asking in your opinion what have they proven.
Cmon bro Bain got banged up put on some weight an lost a step. His Freshman year he held it down was prob best player on our D. Hopefully he lost that weight. Mesidor had i think 7.5 sacks before he got hurt last year. They also was using him at DT an stunting running him out the play. Theres alot more to worry about than Bain and Mesidor fam

Bain had a really good half of a season 2 years ago. Mesidor had a solid season 3 years ago. I see meat left on the bone. The most optimistic version is never the one that plays out on the field.

Go ask Oregon, Bama and OSU who they'd rather have: Bain or Atkinson. It's not close
