And that tip about a move to the B1G with the new Adidas contract in time for the opening of our new stadium almost got past me…Listen to the interview. After a chat with DanRad he says Cobb Stadium is moving to intermural fields to make way for a 6 story football facility.
This is about to be the most fun time to be a Canes fan since 2002
Wait. What? Herbie said he’s heard SEC.And that tip about a move to the B1G with the new Adidas contract in time for the opening of our new stadium almost got past me…![]()
I was joking, but am now waiting for the insiders to fill us in….Wait. What? Herbie said he’s heard SEC.![]()

I think this topic is worthy of it’s own thread. No need for it to get buried in the other one.*mods maybe move this to facilities update thread

Adidas makes me vomitU mutha…lol
I cant imagine they'd just take those fields away and not set up something else for them to play onSo, the student body gets hosed. I hope that they give the student body somewhere to have IM sports. I know the typical fan doesn't care, but the IM fields are a significant part of the college experience for many students. We can provide a legit facility while having an IM field.

Actually, it's more like 2.5-3 full size football fields, and they can get packed out pretty quickly, especially in the spring. People forget that a replacement for Cobb is going to be more than just throwing a track around the IM field. You are going to have seating, concession and restroom facilities. You are going to likely have locker rooms and auxiliary spaces. That starts to take up a lot of room very quickly. Rad isn't going to halfass this and that's great, but people forget that a building is more than just the field of play.IIRC the IM fields are about the size of four combined football practice fields. I am sure they are working to preserve as much of the IM fields as possible. They are tearing down the towers too and building a new and completely different housing concept. It's possible that the new Cobb might only take up ~25% of the current IM fields, and that some of that loss can be recovered by poaching into where the Hecht-Stanford dining is currently or another area. Might want to take a breath and see what the plan actually is before you jump to conclusions.

You can tell the people that have been on campus, vs. the people that haven't during conversations like this. The space for the Towers is spoken for because they plan on building a better dining facility than the old dining hall, plus the new dorms. If this plan comes to fruition, I wouldn't be shocked if the IM program is moved to that open field over by Westlab(If the University owns it), or over by the Foote Green, which is the only other open green space on campus.
I was told the new dining hall will be ground level within Centennial Village. Hect-Stanford is independent of the Towers as you know.IIRC the IM fields are about the size of four combined football practice fields. Again, do you think that a stadium is just the field of play? Rad is going to want to build something world class(Any good AD does), and that means a larger footprint than what the current Cobb stadium is, a facility that is pretty mediocre. Even if Rad says "I want this facility to hold 2k instead of the 500 it does now", that means you have to account for almost 4x the restrooms, the auxiliary facilities and the like. Combine that with any locker room facilities and other things Rad wants to provide to Coach Deem's program and the women's soccer program and the footprint gets expanded. As any of us that has ever dealt with CG or the University will tell you, there's always a question of parking, so I wouldn't be shocked if someone said "We need to have onsite parking, that doesn't cut into the existing stock", so there's that. Please stop crying like a baby.
The IM Fields are already bigger than they were before (before the mid 1990s), with the teardown of the Army Armory Building. The Towers and the cafeteria are also being torn down. All told, there is plenty of space to add ONE track (and field).
Relax and stop acting like UM has no place to have intramurals.
Are you going to cry like this when we also find space on campus for a permanent softball field?
Actually, no, you're wrong (again), it's four fields. Maybe more. I just did a rough measurement on google maps (see attached pics). I cut out the two fields at Greentree (just barely shy of two full football fields) and roughly superimposed them on the IM fields (see the offset red square). There is still more acreage than those two fields still left above it (so we are at four fields plus already, not 2.5 lol) and there are still two triangle shaped portions on the bottom of the pic which add acreage.
And if you are still holding onto some last thread of hope, there is literally a football field marked off at the top of the IM fields in the pic below, and that is absolutely less than 1/4 of the IM fields. ****, a proper survey might barely get us closer to 5 than 4 fields.
You're the guy who posted that ridiculous manifesto about how Mario wouldn't be able to recruit well at Miami, so I think you will understand why, after that, and now this, along with your smug assumption above, I find you to be a completely non-credible human. In fact, I think you're probably a troll.
And yes you sure can "tell the people that have been on campus, vs. the people that haven't during conversations like this."
People like me, who attended and graduated from UM, lived at Walsh for a year (literally walked out on the IM fields every day), played sports multiple times a week on the IM fields for four years, and won a P-Cup Championship there with their fraternity know what their talking about.
But tell us more about how MaRiO WoN'T bE AbLe tO ReCRuIT aT MiAmI.
Like I said. Rad surely has a plan. Student needs will of course be considered. Don't be stupid. Before you make baseless assumptions, take a knee and wait to see what they are. Then if you're right about something, you can come back here and tell us all about it.

They need to turf the new Cobb and let club sports practice and play on the field. That would solve some of the IM field usage if they are taking half the space. For instance, my son had to practice lacrosse on the IM fields at 7:30 pm two nights a week and they were lucky to get that. Men's lacrosse will be top 10 this year btw. Please stop crying like a baby.
