Article on Mark Richt vs Coley Offenses

Interesting read. Thanks OP. I am surprised that I didnt see any references to the "check with me" offense.

Wasn't aware coley had an offense. He's basically me playing xbox..not sure what I should do, let's try that thing that got me 4 yards that other time.

I said something about the trips formation in one of the game day threads last season. I think it was the Cincinnati game, the defense knew exactly what we were going to do when we went in that formation. As soon as they saw us line up on trips, you could see the free safety running over to that side of the field to cover the go route. He would get about 15 yards off the los and just sit where he knew the route was going.

Also, seems a bit harsh towards Kayaa. Not that he's perfect, but is his game that deficient?

Kaaya needs help with his footwork, but I don't think he has tunnel vision, and I'm not sure he was doing much with the pre-snap reads last year. I thought that was the whole reason they did that stupid stand up and look at the sideline.

Can't really make a decision about the defense if you're looking at the side line. Kayaa's not calling plays, blocking, or dropping passes after bad route running.. clean some of that **** up to help a kid out and he'll be waaaaay better than serviceable. He's gonna have a stellar year.

We all saw Coley for who he was after the first 2 games. We all did not want to believe it and just said they were hiding plays for other bigger games. Those plays are still hiding.

I am still a fan of the halfback pass. It failed so nobody likes it but life works out like that. The play was there. But like so many times the past 3 seasons it was poor execution that made everything look bad. If we hit that pass we were still a sucky team. Golden was still gone. Richt still would have had to scrap everything.

Dumb article, pre-snap reads don't mean $h!t.

How so? You have to have some idea where the ball is going based on your first read. The tunnel vision article refers to is that Kaaya would not necessarily adjust read if the defense changed the look before the ball was snapped. You should never have a situation where once the ball is snapped you don't know where it is going.

I beg to differ...most, to all College secondaries, change their looks post-snap, not right before the ball is snapped...ie disguising.

IMHO, coverages must be confirmed after the snap, not before.

Of course it was poor execution. It was called in a fricking snowstorm.

I've talked about the pedestrian route combos a few times on here. They were awful and the fact that Kaaya has put up the numbers he has is remarkable considering the offense he was put into.

OT, but one thing I looked at in that article from the CFB Stats link was the Miss St under Diaz had the 7th best defense in allowing TD's in the red zone. Appy State was 2nd.

That offense was predictable and let's not forget about all those stupid penalties. Move the ball 25 yards, 15 yard penalty, move the ball 15 yards, 5 yard penalty. Score a touch down, bring the play back. Terrible indictment on Golden and the clowns he hired and refused to fire.
