Will he be here next year? I've heard both sides saying he redshirted and some say he didn't redshirt?

Listed officially as a SR on all rosters yet here is his player profile for his FR yr:

2011 (True Freshman): Participated on practice squad, did not see any action.

Why would they not have redshirted him? I'm assuming this can't be done retro-actively. It's not like he'd be the game changer on this D next year, but he'd sure as he'll help an already thin lb core.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to pull my hair out of my head. He's a kid whose clearly a pro talent to me and would be a no brainer, All-ACC type guy next year if healthy. He was a raw safety coming out of high school, and he's turned into a really good player. He needs that one more year to really become the leader at LB and grow into himself. I think somebody in the pros is gonna like his length alot at will.

According to participation reports, Armbrister appeared in games early in 2011. I can't tell how many.

I think Peter Ariz confirmed a couple weeks back that he is in fact a senior and this is his last year playing college ball, unfortunately.

He evolved into a serviceable player for us but he's not what I would call an elite UM linebacker by any stretch. I look forward to the next generation of outside linebacker.

He's as good or better than some LBs we've had during great times. If he were coming back next year, and I, too, have heard both sides continuously, it'd be a tremendous help for our LB depth and overall defense.

We are beyond thin at LB next year.

Grace
Kirby/Young
Owens

That's it with guys with playing experience. Pretty ugly and LB recruiting isn't going the best either (although I like Perry).

i think he started great but grace and kirby has shown we will be fine. Owens is coming on too.

I think the depth could be a lot better than some think. Here is what I think 2015 could look like at LB.

SAM
SR Tyriq McCord (with AQM coming back, I can see McCord moving back to SAM)
SO Darrion Owens
RFR Mike Smith
FR Jamie Gordinier

MLB
SR Raphael Kirby
SO Juwon Young

WILL
JR Jermaine Grace
RFR Terry McCray
FR Charles Perry

Also don't be surprised to see Gray or Walter Tucker move to LB with our RB spot loaded. We have two LB's coming in as well. Losing Figs, Paul, and EJ hurt!

If Mike Smith makes an unusual leap and Mccord finds a way to be comfortable at SAM (while I feel incredibly nervous watching him in space), it would help, sure.

Would have been nice to roll into next season with Figs (****, to have had him this season).

That's the thing. We ask our LBers to do a lot of things, especially play well in space. Our best LB Perryman struggles at times.

Now we have guys like Smith and McCray, there MO coming out of HS was they struggle in space. Its a scary situation IMO.

FWIW, I don't see keeping Owens off the field. Him and Grace will be our best 2 LB next year.

I really like Tucker at FB.
