Sister/brother in law live in Chugiak, just outside Anchorage. We go up once a year to visit. Anchorage has a small town feel. Wildlife is amazing, summers are fantastic. Winters are hard (Dark almost all day in Dec/Jan) but I can only guess Idaho is not tremendously different based on cold/snow. Good people, underrated food scene, nice craft beer scene. Airplane (Think remote villages) and outdoor culture there. Mountains everywhere you go. Definitely visit before you decide but we like it. Not sure I could handle the winters vs living in Atlanta but there is alot to like.My wife has been offered a job in Anchorage. I can do my thing pretty much anywhere. I might not sell my house here in Idaho until I'm sure I like it there. Any thoughts?
Don’t post and drive.
I have not lived there, but I have friends that live in Anchorage. They have families and have been there for quite a while. Two sets moved from the Northeast. Idaho is half way there and I know a decent amount of people there, too -- some of the schools like Idaho State have sisters programs or campuses in Alaska. My wife has been offered a job in Anchorage. None of this is overly helpful, but of the 10 or so people I know that live there, well they still live there and none seem to have plans to bolt any time soon.
