At the risk of more "negs", I'm gonna throw another name out for DC consideration.

Since most of y'all debating the topic stay looking in the rear view mirror for a candidate, how about we pursue Bob Shoop, from Penn State?

I know, I know ... We hate all things PSU!

But Shoop was at Vandy with Franklin. I also think Shoop was in the mix for the LSU job that Kevin Steele took. And he's rumored to have turned down the Auburn job that Steele took this year. Dude has a great rep, from what I've read.

Check the stats for Shoop's defenses ... They rank pretty well.

Anybody got a take on Shoop beyond, "don't want anymore PSU coaches"?

Feel free to disect his defensive system and style of play ... As I've found the threads on other options very informative.

Good candidate.

I've never watched his Defense... Stats are great to start and then the eye test of the moving parts

Can either of y'all offer analysis?

What about the guy from Virgina? For some reason they to me look very physical and imposing every time we play them. May just be because we suck.

I have a few other projects going on, but are we rumored to be interested in either?

I think Shoop makes sense because of the Vandy tie and because Penn State hasn't played their bowl game, yet.

I don't think Anderson is in the mix because I think he turned down the Vandy job when Mason was hired.

He followed Franklin from Vandy to Penn State.... I've read that he's pretty connected to Franklin though I don't know how true that is. That said, why would he leave PSU as DC at a salary of $1M per year to be DC at the U???

Not sure what Tennessee is paying him, but he's leaving PSU for them.

He had told Auburn no thanks

Agree.

It's why I'm curious to see the salaries for Shoop at UT and Steele at AU. Both head coaches seem to be on the hot seat. But Malzhan's is probably hotter. Plus, I'd rather live in Knoxville, too.

Shoop probably didn't want to leave PSU for a sinking ship at Auburn. However, he probably sees Tennessee as being a more stable gig than his his gig under Franklin. Franklin's seat at PSU is getting warm....and by the end of the 2016 season it could be getting hot...especially after Hackenberg declared early.

Wow... That's unbelievable... I'd love to know how much they're paying him. That will tell all... or mostly all.

$1.15 million per season, and looks like he has a 3-year contract.

According to this link, Shoop has to pay his own $800K buyout.

If true, that suggests he isn't leaving for the money, he just prefers the Tennessee program.

Maybe this can help people get their arms around the idea that just throwing money at guys isn't always the answer. Quality of life, and/or quality of the program matter.
