Another day with Richt is just another wasted opportunity to succeed

Mark Richt is a great human being and a Cane, those are the two best compliments I could give anyone. Mark Richt is not a good head coach of a football team and unfortunately he is in that position for his alma mater at the moment. The facts are at the same time he has improved the talent on this roster the team has actually won less. He neglected to fix the most glaring problems in the off-season, seems blind to where the weaknesses are and who is responsible for those areas, I don't blame him, it is human nature to not to acknowledge your own faults or the fault of your own son.

By trying to hang onto Richt or let him "hire an OC" we are doing ourselves and him a disservice, this is embarrassing enough for all involved but giving him an ultimatum like that would be bad for both him and ultimately us. Bad for him because he would never have any respect moving forward from the team, UGA tried everything they could to help and protect him from himself and they wasted years in that process to try and be nice to a nice man. It is bad for us because I would not trust his ability to pick an OC much like I do not trust his ability to self-scout his own tendencies or any of his many job duties he is responsible for like play-calling right now.

Mark Richt will lose to VTech and to Pitt and miss a bowl game in a season the Coastal division was wide open for the taking. He will make $4MM in salary for a 5-win season, $800K per win, Leveon Bell is giving up that much a game in the NFL right now by sitting out. I would say the game has passed Richt by but as an old Cane I witnessed his offense at FSU and we were the beneficiaries of some of that stale use of talent there.

It is time to part ways now, we will not make a bowl game and the transition needs to happen ASAP, and I know who we should get as a short-term replacement (next few years) as we work on a long term plan. No hard feelings, the Richt plan failed, lets just move on, we should thank UGA for giving us the historical data to make this call this quickly and consider ourselves lucky that we don't have to spin our wheels for the next five years going nowhere while we deplete the talent level again.

I love coach Richt as a human being, but we are not talking about that right now, we are simply talking about football coaching, he is not getting it done, has shown no reason to believe he can get it done and frankly does not look like someone who really seems to care much if he gets it done, and that is his prerogative to do so, just like it needs to be ours to acknowledge what is happening and make the proper decision.
