TrumpyCane wants to know if you missed the Oregon, Iowa, Penn State games?
Coincidentally or not he was asked to make some throws those games and ended throwing some terrible INTs
@Memnon posted a well thought post about Mendoza and Cig's system
No I didn’t watch any of those.
Reading the play by play doesn’t usually tell the true story, but from what I gather it seems in the Oregon game he threw a pick 6 to start the 4th quarter and Ducks tied the game. Then the next time they had the ball, he marched them down the field for a TD. And this is against the #3 team in the country, on the road. Sounds pretty clutch to me. His mistake happened when there was still an entire quarter to play. It sucks but it’s not like throwing a pick in OT or on the final drive to win the game.
Iowa- no doubt about it he sucked. Couldn’t move the ball at all, seems they played like we did against Louisville. Late in the 4th he throws a pick. Yet on what could have been their last possession, he hits a 49 yard bomb to put them up by 7. Mendoza made a mistake , but made up for it and came up big when the game was on the line.
PSU- 4th quarter, 10 min left. Throws a pick. Down by 4 with 2 min left. Then on Indianas last possession, Mendoza starts the drive by getting sacked. And then he engineers a 10 play, 80 yard drive for a TD to put Indiana up by 3 to win the game.
So in all 3 games he made a mistake in the 4th quarter and then immediately made up for it by scoring a TD to win the game. And he does it in absolutely critical situations where a mistake ends their perfect season.
Hes the anti-Beck. Beck twice had his shot- Louisville felt like it would be his Heisman moment - we miraculously get turnovers and score pts late in the game, somehow we are only down 3 pts on the final possession. We’re driving, Louisville’s gassed. All we need is for him to take care of the ball. A TD gives us the win but we also have a kicker who can hit 60 yarders and at worst we are playing for OT. Just don’t turn the ball over. Beck has already thrown 3 picks so he’s stunk up Hard Rock and Mendozas worst day this season doesn’t come close. And then on first down at the Louisville 31- Dawson dials up a pass, he’s trying to win. Beck can’t read the defense and throws a pick, ends the game. We all know what he did in OT against SMU.
So I don’t get what you are trying to say. Mendoza hasn’t been clutch in the most critical situations? Beck isn’t as bad as a lot of fans think? If it makes you feel better to believe that, go ahead and believe it.
