There's been a lot of criticism of the admins in relation to the football program. Shalala retiring, Blake James the puppet etc. We clearly appear to have a lame duck head coach. I personally have a gut feeling he's not here next year and with this admin I genuinely have no idea who they'd hire. No confidence.

It's been floated out there that since 3 coaches in a row have failed, maybe there's a systemic issue that transcends coaching. I'm of the opinion that the right coach can win here. I think this squad was loaded. This could have been 10-2 with a few nice wins and maybe one bad loss. This could have been undefeated or 11-1 based on talent. Idk how you have a freshman all American qb, a top 5 rb, an online with a few nfl guys on it, 3rd team all American tight end and mlb, and some pro talent on the dline and in the secondary and be 5-6 against fbs teams.

Here's the question. Is this an admin problem? Or does the right coach recruit, win, and improve attendance?

We have two problems. One, we've got the worst coach in the conference. He's bad. Everyone knows he is. There are not stats that say he is a good coach. 1-24 against teams that finish ranked. Gets outscored by over 100 in 2nd halves. Has a handful of wins against teams over .500, but a HUGE amount of losses. Golden is what he is, a .500 coach at best. His 9 win season at Miami consisted of beating up on teams that finished under .500.

The other issue is that the administration has always gone the cheap route and had some bad buyouts. A bad hire happens at any school. No one is immune to it. However, Miami is not just an unlucky school that keeps hiring bad coaches out of pure luck. Miami has had 3 bad coaches in a row because they've been cheap. Hiring Coker was the easy move and they made it. Hiring Shannon was cheap and easy, so they did it. Golden was pretty cheap and had high APR ratings, so they went after him.

The problem is that the administration is too focused on being cheap and not enough on actual proven coaches. It's ironic because in the end they keep paying buyouts as well.

Miami doesn't need facilities made out of gold. They don't need 22 practice fields, 4,000 sq ft athlete dorms, etc. to win a conference title or national title. Miami has the city going for it and the rich history as well as being in the most talent rich area of that nation. All Miami needs is a good coach. If this admin pulled their heads out of their asses and hire a proven good coach, then the program starts winning again.

The admin is the problem because they don't want to hire the best coach, they want to hire the cheapest coach and hope they get lucky. We've seen how it has worked out for them.

Head coach is in way over his head. His ceiling is an FCS program.

Blake James has been a stepford wife AD.

Donna has been distracted with her mom and career path change.

The bot doesn't understand the skillset needed to restore hurricane football tradition is foreign to the current head coach, and merely acquiesce to the Tony Robbinesque word tracks they are assaulted with, that he gleaned from his brothers' wall street sales manuals...

Current HC is not a fit, administration is guilty by association, the right HC can definitely right the ship.

This.

BOT and Admin are too busy playing politics and political correctness, "Ohh, lets hire from within, Ohh, that guy does things right" No x and o understanding in the job description. For an institution that prides itself on Academic excellence they do a pretty mediocre job on Coach and AD evaluation...thus mediocre results.

I don't think it's a coincidence that since Shalala became President, there's been 3 consecutive bad coaching hires.

There is no reason a decent coach cannot win here. If fact, any decent coach will win big here. Al is not a decent coach because he refuses adapt to the superior talent available to him. JJ ran the wishbone before he came to Miami. He had Bernie and Vinnie -- no wishbone. Did chance to a defense that used our speed even better than Howard's. The problem is the administration either refuses to hire a decent coach or is incapable of finding and signing one. They are probably to busy working on the next huge ncaa scandal they will inflict on the football program to make sure our young players never embarrass their fellow administrations ever again.

our admin issues are not overrated. we have srs problems with our admin.

it started with not being fair to butch on the buyout clause in his contract.

we need to hire a president who cares about academia and football. football makes money at the U, so we need to make sure we have someone who isnt here to be in a ****ing match about who made who, etc.

all these people in academia dont make sense, they want power and money, but they lack the balls and/or ability to make it in the business world, so they turn to academia and/or govt work(politics).

The problem is not overstated the Admin. is Mickey Mouse level incompetent when it comes to football, they're too stupid to realize that football =money, stop being cheap and hire a real coach and they'll make more money than they could ever imagine, look at USC, Baylor, and TCU, they spent some money on football and coaches now they're making more $$$ than ever

Maybe they're new to the board but it's nice to read some concise, level-headed views in a row. Thanks OP.

Our real issues lie with the administration. These include

1. Our admin loves to micro-manage. The problem is they're terrible at making decisions.

2. Since they love to micro-manage, they end up bringing in some puppet at AD with no real other then slinging tickets.

The solutions are simple

1. Hiring a competent, energetic and passionate AD. Then letting go and allowing said AD to run the program.

2. Committing the necessary resources to our program which we have. We're not poor so let stop lying and selling that story.

It's more than that. There is also no proof that they can hire the right coach. This coach we have was hired and extended by this admin. He is not the problem for UM if he is never hired and extended.

Just think about the fact that we've lost two athletic directors in the last several years. Those ADs left for Texas Tech and Nebraska. Texas Tech is a mediocre athletic program in f'n Lubbock, TX. Nebraska is a good athletic program, but you're choosing to live in Lincoln, NE.

Imagine making the decision to leave Miami, FL for either of those dreadful locations. We either don't pay our athletic department employees enough or it is epically mismanaged. More likely, it's both.

Or it's possible that the people who left just preferred to go to locations where they know there will be endless, unquestioned fan support with virtually no expectations going forward in this new world of college football. There may be some in Nebraska but I feel like firing Pellini was a prime example of taking a negative spotlight OFF the school versus trying to actually get better. In turn, Miami has championship expectations from the city and fans ...and that makes things tough, especially when the BOT doesn't seem to give a crap about that anymore. That makes for a nightmare AD job.

Your description of Lubbock as a "dreadful location" is very charitable.

LOL, it is a ******* football message board. Style points don't mean ****. Same regurgitated **** the last 3 years and this same message done way too many times in the last month.

We have a head coach that should have been fired mid-season, an administration that has actively tried to kill the atmosphere at UM games, actively tried to distance themselves from the style of play that made UM famous, and our administration engages in behavior that is borderline taunting of their own fans. If anything, they are underrated.

Gotta love how Al Golden was doing a-OK and then became the worst coach in the conference according to you after losing one game.

That's why you gotta love the people who called us crazy. What is crazier? Changing your mind drastically based on a game? Or consistently having the same opinion over 2 years?
