ACC Tournament Game 1: 5/20/25 Cal

Impossible!

JD was the single worst candidate possible to take over the program. He was the one constant in the program overseeing the downfall of the Canes over the last two decades.

If it’s someone from the outside who hasn’t been apart of this program, it’s instantly better; credentials be damned.
Two words to explain myself, "bro ball"

Torres is correct lol that kid had no business at Tusculum. They also had the Devan Watts kid that got drafted. He threw mid-90s but he was 5'10-5'11 and apparently had spin rates in the 99th percentile on his FB and 12-6 BB. With him being short and that spin it looked like it was 100+ and ran in on you.

The hitter was Kevin Victoriano. Don't think he had the greatest batting average on the full season but he hit bombs and tore it up against us every time. He mashed. Little 5'9 180 pound kid hitting tanks over our batters eye. Ended up landing in the softball field during their game. I remember looking it up and google earth said it was like 480 ft.
Thats funny...the kid I know that went there was about 5'9 170 and hit 20-21 bombs for them. Still got drafted but didnt last long for some reason then did really well in the frontier league for about 6 years. Alexi Colon.

Ya I remember him too from when I was watching games and on visits my senior year of HS. Him and Cade Stallings were lethal. Cade came in from Louisville, but we played him when he was at Farragut when they were on that legendary run of TN HS baseball domination and pumping out players to D1 and MLB. Colon and Stallings are 2 more than didn't belong in D2. They also had the younger Hochevar brother after he left UT but he never ended up being anything. People locally blew that one out of the water like he was going to be the best thing Tusculum ever had.

The last time I saw a Cuban beat like JD today was the '76 Olympics when Leon Spinks went certifiable and assaulted his Cuban opponent Sixto Soria like he had stolen his baby's milk.

Jesus. Disgusting. Literally no light at the end of the tunnel. And we’re (I’m) not getting any younger…

Wish I would have been old enough to know better and appreciate the 90s and even early 2000s.

Need **** like this to leak so we can blow it up from the jump the best we can…

Like make it Schiano to Tennessee embarrassing for the school

They were pretty local to me and we played them many times when I transferred down to D2. Had several friends go there.

Probably had the best hitter I ever saw in D2, rivaled only by some guys at North Greenville, Mount Olive, and Erskine, and definitely the best pitcher, by far, then probably 1 more in the top 3-4 I saw at the D2 level.
Pitched at University of Tampa ‘07-‘08. Tusculum came down to play us in the regionals in ‘07 we beat them but they had some solid hitters. Catawba was another team that always had some solid hitters.

Don’t deserve to make field of 64. No signature series wins to really fall back on. You don’t lose to last seed.

But we will get in as a 3 seed. May win a couple games to solidify JD.
I hope this thing implodes but this is incorrect. We swept the ACC regular season champs and took 2 of 2 from the third place team. I think it’s those wins that get us in.

You prob played with Junior Mejia. He could do it all. Some common friends from the area he played in south Jersey said he was a good dude.

I think he is a elementary teacher/high school coach in that same area

Got yourself a ship’ while you were there too right? I think they won it in 07?

You’ve got a few years on me. We tried to add a spring break midweek series at Tampa my senior year when our scheduled opponent cancelled on us and then it got rained out anyway. Really wanted to go down and play them.

Catawba had 2 studs when I was in school too. Pitcher and a catcher. We saw them midweek so never saw the pitcher but I think he was a 5th rounder to the cubs and made it to AAA.

The catcher hit like .480 with 28 homeruns and I think he was a 20th rounder. Made it to AAA as well. Think they lost to Tampa in the championship that year.

yup Junior was a good dude and fast as ****. We were stacked offensively that year. Toughest game that year was Florida Southern in the regionals. World Series was relatively easy in comparison.

Might have missed it but did you go to Tusculum? University of Tampa was a great experience for me. Great field, coaches and top notch competition. They were good at finding the D1 “rejects” and still are. I’m one of them coming from Stetson.

Year I pitched against Catawba they had a guy Jerry Sands who ended up playing for the Giants I think. Guy had a ton of power. They were a tough matchup but we just had a stacked lineup.

North Carolina took 2 of 3 from us. You mean NC State who was 4th. NC State lost to Liberty, Coastal, Richmond, USC Upstate WTF is that…

Georgia Tech? They had perhaps the easiest ACC schedule in history.

ACC it would appear is down big time. I said we would get in but in no way do we deserve it.

they haven't been since rad took over. baseball is an afterthought at miami

Before Rad, my guy. All we’ve doing is hiring literal hand-me-down coaches.

It boggles my mind on two occasions, two alums did the right thing & stepped down, & under two admins, they said “don’t worry, we’ll just hire from w/in ur failed staph.”

Unbelievable

So just to be clear, you think sweeping the ACC regular season champs is not a good series win?

It’s a series win. That’s it. A JD job saver perhaps.

I look at their body of work overall and they had an easy go of it. It makes a lot of people I guess get excited. They easily could have been 8th, maybe worse if they played a slightly tough ACC schedule.

How is that for being clear? I also don’t think the ACC is particularly strong this year. Liberty pretty much had their way with the ACC and they are the 8 seed in the CUSA tournament. Yeah…CUSA
