A question about coach kul

He's a great coach... probably the best defensive line coach in America. Which is why it blows my ******* mind that we don't have 5-star DT's from all over America lining up to come play for him.

I don't get it at all. We have a top 10 recruiting class, but we can't get any traction with DT's for two cycles in a row.... it's just weird.

Heard numerous DTs (Briggs most recently) say we cut contact or they haven’t heard from us lately. That’s the problem is there’s not enough communication. You can’t rely on a 17 year old to care about a resume of a coach. He’s gonna play for the guy that talks to him every day, “shows love”, and promises him PT whether you’re actually going to get it or not.

If the story about Briggs has any merit whatsoever than it is disturbing to say the least. We are in no position to be that insanely picky. Briggs is an excellent prospect and we should have locked him up immediately. This shows incompetence and is concerning.

Now I am fully aware that we as fans are not privy to everything that goes on behind the scenes. Maybe there is more to the Briggs situation. Maybe we have 2 silent commits at DT. Who knows? All I know is that this staff has known for some time that DJ Johnson was unhappy and that they were very likely losing RJ McIntosh and Norton. They knew full well we would probably be dealing with major attrition on the DL so I will wait until after NSD to pass final judgement. From where I stand now however, things don't look too promising which is alarming to say the least.

Something is just wrong with the dl as whole when it comes to recruiting. Kul is a great coach but why like others said are these kids not lining up to play for him. Not even the DL out of Missouri where he use to coach are not even lining up. Take a look at other schools who have a top defense they have dl committed that play DT or DE.
NCST - 5
Clemson - 5
Bama - 5 signed and 1 hard committed
Ohio St - 4
Geo - 3 signed and 2 hard committed
Miami - 2 Signed ( one being an olb) and 1 committed

Doesn't have to be 5 star DTs for me. Could be 4 stars. Could be guys that are 3 stars but are late bloomers.

I trust his evaluations.

But for the life of me I can't understand how defensive line recruiting was somehow better under Golden then it is now.

The biggest complaint Mizzou had regarding him was his recruiting plus sending out the playbook when he wasn't retained by the new coach (who was the D-Coordinator).

Pinkel loved him though and was the one to call Richt to get him in the door.
